- Vicky Paige managed to snap up two roasts for less than £7
- The mum of five used food waste fighting app Too Good To Go
- She thinks the app is a fantastic way of saving money and preventing food waste
Roast dinners are certainly not the cheapest option for dinner, but one savvy mum has revealed how she managed to get two roasts from Toby Carvery for just £6.58.
Vicky Paige, 42, a full time mum from Shoreham-by-Sea, first learned about the food waste fighting app Too Good to Go on the Latest Deals, Extreme Couponing & Bargains Group on Facebook.
She decided to try it for herself and was impressed with the results, sharing a photo and posting in the group: “Okay people, I tried the TooGoodToGo app last night and got two Carverys last night. I was a bit worried thinking the gravy would be all over, but it came in little pots. The Yorkshire puddings came in a little paper bag, so no soggy Yorkshire so it’s a thumbs up from me.”
Vicky’s post soon went viral, with over 250 likes and 115 comments from fellow members of the bargain hunting community. Impressed members commented: “It is a great idea and you get a decent amount of food!”
Vicky, who is a mum to five girls, told LatestDeals.co.uk: “I spotted the app on Latest Deals, Extreme Couponing & Bargains Group and thought 'what a fab idea’.
“I then downloaded the app, had a look and thought I would like to try it out. I was a bit sceptical at first on what it would be like, but it was really easy to use.
“I went and picked up my Carvery, and it looked lovely and tasted great. The gravy came separate in a little pot and the Yorkshire pudding was crispy and came in a little paper bag.
“The vegetables and meat were in a plastic container with separate sections.
“I was well impressed with it as I was worried it would be all mixed up with the gravy. The turkey was not dry at all nor the beef.
“I definitely recommend for people to download this app, as it’s easy to do: you just pick what food you like, click how many goody bags you would like and wait till it’s time to collect. As for the price, just WOW!
"I hope more restaurants will come on board with this scheme to save on waste. For me it’s 10 out of 10 - and it’s an excellent app for people on low income too!”
Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk and a fellow fan of Too Good To Go, has other great tips for saving money on food too. He says:
“Another tip is MealPal. It gets you takeaway restaurant food for 40% less at lunchtime. Order on the app, go to the restaurant and pick-up your lunch. If you’re in a city this is the best way to save on lunch. You can also try switching to Aldi, Lidl and Jack's and you’ll almost halve your food bill on day one. I have their online recipe sections bookmarked on my phone’s homepage so when I’m in the shop I can quickly choose a recipe and buy the ingredients.”
