More than 100 Bags of Dog Poo Found on Just One UK Beach

In the News

I was really shocked at this article, whilst I am not a dog owner I have seen special bins.

I'd make all owners microchip and have DNA taken from their dogs at the beginning.

If any crap is found, they could trace it back to the dog's keepers and fine them heavily.

I know people should take greater responsibility for their rubbish and respect the areas more, but you have to ask how many bins are actually provided if this much rubbish has been recovered . I generally find the majority people will use bins if they are provided and accessible.

Mango4 Not around here they don't.

Just the same where my parents live. Dog poo bags put in their hedge even though there's 2 bins within 100 yards of eachother, both close to their house.

Mango4 So if you can't see any bin around, you drop your rubbish anywhere?

Until I saw this, I wrongly assumed people took it home with them, like you do with normal rubbish 🤔@bzortead

bzortead Not what I said was it but feel free to twist things, but if bins are there people would be more inclined to use them as they clearly care enough to take bags and clean up the mess in the first place , and as there is a problem here why not provide more bins to help alleviate the problem

Mango4 You're saying that people need to have bins every 50 meters so that they don't feel inclined to throw rubbish anywhere. I call this a lack of education, a lack of empathy, a lack of culture, a lack of respect for others. If you can't find a bin to throw your rubbish in, carry it until you find one, or take it home. After all, it is your rubbish and not that of others.

bzortead Never said bins need to be 50 metres at apart at all more twisting what I said. , clearly there's a problem and solution needs to be found just criticising others on social media ( thou a trend these days) is not a practical solution and not going to solve anything . In public places there is no good reason not provide appropriate facilities for people, clearly here dog walkers are bothering to take bags and bag the mess so see no reason why they would not dispose of in a bin if available. Regards of taking litter home you may be right, but honestly I have rarely seen people walking around beach areas, public areas, shops or towns carrying bags of rubbish or dog poo with them. Sure others on here would have something to say if someone walked into a food store carrying a bag of dog mess.

Sorry you can’t blame the council for not providing bins, it’s the owners responsibility.

It really is disgusting that people do this. Someone in the article says that there aren't a lot of bins in that area, but I doubt it would make much difference if there were. We have loads of bins along our local high street, and yet there are food wrappers and things like that all over the floor most days.

angelik Exactly, the excuse for people's lack of education is to say that there are few bins. In this case, they feel allowed to throw rubbish anywhere as if it were a normal thing in society.

I have worked for the council for plenty of years and seen a lot of dog poo bags all over the place and if you ask most dog owners they will say they pick theirs mess up. One trick I noticed when they let the dog of the lead they don't look back why the dog does it's business. Also been attacked off dogs off a lead when working.

Is this a competition between the smokers and the dog walkers to see who can be the nastiest? 🤢

Disgusting, people should be ashamed of doing that, but microchip like the guy above says? That's just mental.

I don't even agree microchipping animals, much less humans although if people agree to that, it's their prerogative.

This is appalling. It just shows how many dogs there are in the world and the knock on effect is the amount of dog poo too! If these people are sensible enough to take a bag to pick it up, and there isn't a bin available, why haven't they got the sense to take the bag home and put it in their own bin? Image

Disgusting, unfortunately I see this behaviour all the time 😞 just disrespectful.

Most owners are responsible it's the minority that spoil it for others, also using biodegradable bags makes more sense, its like we are drowning in plastic 😞

Dogs have to be microchipped by law now

Our home is on route to the forest for lots of dog walkers. We have a large hedge and when my husband does his annual hedge trimming he finds loads of dog poo bags tucked in it. You would think if the owner has taken the responsibility to pick it up they would take it home BUT NO.

Probably been allowing this to build up as a problem for a substantial period if a hundred dog owners have left their mark there. Perhaps the local council should have taken heed of residents concerns about anti-social actions and tried to rectify the situation with more bins, educational signs and , sadly, prosecution and punishment.

Absolutely awful, recently in our village a group has started to put empty dog poo bags in folders and attached them to lamp post. Hopefully this will cut down on the mess on the streets.

Being a dog owner this really annoys me that people are so lazy about picking up their dog mess. Pick it up and use a bin. If not don’t get a dog. Gives the good people a bad name

Disgusting. One of things you have to deal with when getting a dog but no lets just dump it. The council will need to look at the amount of bins available as this is probably too low.

SilverSurfer yeah I’ve seen that at a local park. Bins overflowed and hadn’t been emptied. So people left it next to the bin. So sometimes it’s not always the public’s fault. But most of the time it’s the lazy people.

rossruby1977 The council should know by now that a hot day and it will be busy especially after last year.

I remember reading a news article about a pilot in the New Forest who were using dog poo to light street lamps, not sure what the outcome was, story was back in 2018 but that would be great it that was extended, using an issue as an asset to light the streets at night.

Sorry I attached the wrong link, 10 bag of poo are turned into two hours of light all the dog owner needs to do is deposit the poo and turn the handle. I thought it was ingenious

SilverSurfer it's sad to say but half of council workers are not very good but there are some good ones at the council. I worked at the council about 8 or 9 years and I've seen some things and some stories.

beccatavender seen this guy installed his own dog bins. They collect the waste and make gas from it. Very clever but smelly. But who cares if you make money. It’s a good idea

The number of councils who

turn off street lights at night due to cost. If I was a dog owner out at night I wouldn't mind a smell for the light 🙂@rossruby1977
