2020 Covid Christmas Truce
In the News
Ministers are looking at how to relax coronavirus restrictions so families can celebrate Christmas together, they were working on a plan and wanted Christmas to be "as close to normal as possible".
What's peoples thoughts?
Tough restrictions might be needed before and after the holiday to allow mixing to take place. They have mentioned about relaxing restrictions for 5 days from Christmas Eve and scientific advice indicates that for every day that measures are relaxed, five days of tighter restrictions would be needed.
So potentially January we would have tougher restrictions for the month.
I don't know what to think to be honest as if we do relax the restrictions then it will make the current lockdown seem a bit pointless and the prospect of a January lockdown again is not the greatest. If we don't relax the restrictions then I can imagine a massive uproar and people just doing what they want.
Everyone can stay away from my house. But other houses won’t listen they haven’t since now

I think we should all use common sense. Perhaps a scaled back Christmas. Spend less time together than you would usually would and do it safely x
They will have to bring in reduced restrictions because some people will just do whatever suits them if not. At least if there is a bit if leeway and guidance, the idiots will have something to follow. It's not a holiday by the way. That's what the Americans call it. A holiday is when you go somewhere nice and send a postcard
People still send postcards? the last time I sent one on holiday, I arrived home before it lol
Dennab Cant be sending in an envelope, how are royal mail supposed to know how the holiday was lol
"As close to normal as possible."
There is or there isn't. Things like "New Normal" is just them giving people a false sense of freedom.
I think we should all have a small family Christmas yes let us see close family but that's it. Big gathering can wait
There's numerous words I can use , I could very well be diplomatic or I could just have a rant .BUT I will choose shocking , 25/12/2020 is Christmas Day and would I pay money to be with the people who I love and our families as well BUT picture the scene we get this mythical 5 days with our friends and family and then January/February your then arranging a funeral for your mum or dad ,or your auntie or uncle just so u can say I sat round the table for your turkey .
I would genuinely love to do the normal Christmas but learn from previous mistakes as your life could depend on it .
Yeah I know that's the dilemma people will face over the Christmas, have 5 days in December but lose them forever in January. I think they will relax some rules as they know people will just go against the rules for Christmas and it was already shown with the ridiculous ramming on beaches in the summer.
Those with a family of mum, dad and kids could surely manage a lovely Christmas without other people? But if you live alone it is surely ok for you to spend time with one other family group, I will be with 3 others, son, his wife and son. 4 of us in total.
I don't think Christmas would be ruined if limited to 2 households mixing.
Lynibis The amount as well, I'm sure on another chat someone said they would have normally have 18 people over!
Getsome If by chance you meant the public can't follow simple rules, I would agree. But if you actually meant they can follow simple rules, based on what I have personally witnessed, I have to disagree.
My neighbours don't even know what "household" means.
I don't think it should all be loosened to have a normal Christmas no.
The virus doesn't take a break
It will, on Christmas eve at 6am the truce will begin. We can go to the pubs and shops and houses and stop fighting with covid! But only for 5 days though and then after that we will back to war with covid again.
Just make sure you have right time on you. Dont want to get caught outside when it comes back Getsome
Unfortunately some people act like what you said was serious look how full pubs are before being made to shut
Imnotcheap yep people will actually believe covid is having a winter break while everyone else has Christmas
Take a look at picture below this is front news in morning this is what you could be doing just for Xmas. Its madness.
The Government will likely be very reluctant to 'cancel' Christmas. It would be extremely unpopular with businesses and millions of people/voters. I believe that a very large number of them would simply ignore any restrictions. While for others, it could have a negative impact on their mental health, in a year when many are already struggling.
