6 Weeks Half Term - Cut to 3 Weeks?

We are on Lock down. Damned if he does. Damned if he doesn’t!

6 weeks is too long for them anyway most kids don’t even have holiday but parents end up having summer garden parties these poor kids would prefer school

I dont think it's an awful idea personally. At least shortening the Summer holidays seems a plausible idea to me. Kids have missed a huge chunk of their education during the pandemic. It's going to take alot of work for teachers & pupils to catch up to where they should have been at this stage. Some may never.

Kids frequently complain about being bored during the summer holidays as they are so long. I personally think 6 weeks is too long and that 3 or 4 weeks would be more reasonable.

And whilst kids have still been educated during the lockdown, sitting in front of a screen for a few hours a day will never be as good as learning face to face in a proper educational setting. So yes, they could do with a bit of catching up.

I think kids have been working hard in the lockdown they have not been able to see there friends do anything so no I think the holidays should stay the same its not the kids fault what's happened and I feel like they have been punished enough

they do need to play catchup at some point, and there are some kids who are even looking forward to getting back to school

I personally ain’t keen on the idea. I can see why they might want to but I’d rather my son have the 6 weeks off personally

I don't think it's a bad idea personally. It would be interesting to hear what teachers and the teaching unions thoughts on it are.

Not sure who’ll be teaching or supporting them as every teacher and TA’s contract would need legally changing first!

I think it's unfair on the children and parents who have been actually home schooling there children properly every day for the last god knows how many weeks. Are them childen like mine going to miss out on there summer holiday aswell after putting there heads down every day and doing the work what was set I have 3 young kids age 9 6 and almost 5 I've home made sure my kids do all the work every day and this summer was hoping them and me can have. A break. But seems like it's still going to be more enduring on them.

I think its wrong my kids have been doing a full school day every day. Unfortunately too many parents keep saying don't worry about homeschooling they will catch up.

There has been talk of re-jigging the terms for decades now .... it's a great idea to look at schooling and make a decent job of whatever is decided..... why do folk see school as a punishment? Education is something we are very, very lucky to have for free! What we DO need is smaller classes and more trained and fairly paid support staff.

What about the teachers? I have been teaching live lessons just like when I was at school - but it is more work when teaching on TEAMS so we are already doing longer hours.

Many kids wont like it, some kids will like it ( the kids that wanna learn ). Personally i wouldnt mind but then again it doesnt have an affect on me, i dont have kids, i dont go to any educational establishment. But other people do have their own thought and i will respect whatever they are.

I think it’s probably the best idea on how to play catch up. I don’t know how else it could be down to catch up on about a years worth of missed school.

Don't think it will happen. Teachers deserve a break ,as they all are at school now. And I don't think it would be fair for kids,they are learning hard at home at the moment.My family living abroad and I with kids going to see them 2 times per year,summer holidays staying for 4-5 weeks,and Christmas 2 weeks.Why would my kids loose 3 weeks of family time ,of summer happiness ?!

Its a few weeks for a few hours and what people forget is its about evening up the life chances for our kids via education . During the lockdown the better off have been able to provide tutorage for their kids whilst I dare say others have barely lifted a book over the last year .

School is not just an educational establishment it is where kids learn their social skills and interactions . You obviously can't ram that all into young people in a few hours or even days but every little will help to enable kids from all backgrounds to have a fighting chance to get on in life . Surely every parent wants better life chances for their kids ?

I think it would be a good idea for pupils who are going on to A levels. There is a big jump from GCSE to A levels and a bit of groundwork wouldn’t go amiss.
