My 600lb life...

Other

Does anyone ever watch My 600lb Life ? I’ve become slightly addicted to the programme. I’m a large (not quite that large) woman so I’m not running these people down in any way but oh man 90% of them are such selfish people... it’s all about them !!!!

I haven't seen it but it sounds interesting. to be honest to get to 600lb they must have been ignoring the situation for a long time. sad really

600lb is the lowest weight there has been one man that was up to 1,000lb. He was being mothered by his mum he was an only child.... but then his mum died and he was lost. So sad.

We live in such a pc correct world that no one feels they can say anything hurtful to another no matter how much it may be needed to be said. In this instance that mother needed a good talking to a long time ago as what she was doing was abuse disguised as love. Someone should have taken her aside, explained how selfish her actions were and asked how she expected him to cope when she was no longer around. That sort of behaviour from a mother is despicable. She probably made him so reliant on her from an early age that he didn't know how to break the cycle.

That’s exactly what happened. His mum was the problem even after he had surgery she was still feeding him all in the name of love !!!!! The surgeon gave her a real telling off several times shouting at her that she was killing her son ect but still she kept bringing him food into hospital undoing the good that had been done. When she died the poor boy was lost it was so sad. He really just didn’t have any life skills whatsoever. I’m waiting for the follow up programme to see what happened.

I love this show! It is fascinating to watch. I am always so happy when there is a success story but the journey that led them to that point is so interesting as you can see quite often that a family member is enabling them. It must take such will power to succeed and keep the weight off.

I can't relate but I always wonder, how does one even get to that stage? I do feel sorry for them though because apparently its a mental disease as well as a physical one.

Back when I had a tv license I watched several episodes. the one that stands out in my mind was the guy who didn't care that his elderly dad remortaged his house to pay for his son's treatment. The dad then had a stroke and still he didn't care. He also did not comply with treatment. He didn't get the huge financial sacrifice his father had made. I don't know if the son is still alive as he didn't loose any weight and just ate pizza all the time.

I love this show! Watched so many episodes and you’re right a lot of the people who are trying to lose weight for the surgery are so selfish, they have husbands, wives, kids, moms, dads who just want them to lose the weight so they can live longer and it’s always about how much of a struggle it is for them to stop eating. It really does baffle me how people can let themselves go like that or what i find worse is sometimes the family members enabling the behaviours and not helping them lose the weight.

it is so sad that family members have to be needed so much that they keep their child so dependent on them even when it hurts them
