Absent from Work for 15 Years Full Pay

Ask a Question

Wow. Just read an article about a hospital employee in Italy. He has been absent from work for 15 years and was still receiving full pay which was in the region of £464,000 in total over all those years.

Italian hospital employee accused of skipping work for 15 years https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-56822571

He is now being investigated for fraud and extortion amongst other things.

Do you think this oversight could ever happen here in the UK? I certainly hope not.

Although that is an extreme example, it goes on to a lesser degree all the time. How often have we heard of people claiming benefits for not being able to work due to back or leg problems only to see them on film without their sticks or wheelchair. They are the ones caught how many go undiscovered? It is too easy to play the system.

Lynibis true, sad that the majority of us that are honest and hard working and we end up paying for these fraudsters either directly or indirectly.

I think it is unlikely to happen in most large companies with HR departments. I think the opposite is true in the UK, people with genuine chronic health conditions struggle to claim adequate levels of support.
