Do You Agree with the TV Licence Changes?
In the News
The TV licence is going up in April, no more free licences for over 75s and increased rates for everyone else. Do you agree with the TV licence or think its time it was scrapped?
I have never paid it never will so not much bother for me really!
BBC is a disgraceful organisation no need to mention Jimmy the kiddy fiddler or Rolf and then there is its political correctness and biased BBC news reporting or how about all the managers on the fiddle.
I worked for the BBC in Queen Margaret drive and it was disgraceful - the number of managers with **** on their pc's was unreal and what did the useless IT manager tell us - yip "just delete it we dont need more aggro for the IT dept"
The internet kiosk in the main cafe was used to download all manner of illegal material (mainly by the guys in the IT dept i hasten to add) from **** , to movies to full tv series etc.
So why would you pay them?
Stand up and say no dont be one of the sheep!
You can stop them easily from doing anything if you dont pay the licence - many people are using the trespass law to stop BBC inspectors coming onto their properties - its all there for you on the internet how to avoid paying just google it!
Should be scrapped. I rarely watch what they put out, and most of the organisation is not fit for purpose
( Reminder for those people who don’t pay tv licence )
Not covered by a TV Licence? You are breaking the law if you:
watch or record programmes as they're being shown on TV or live on an online TV service, or
download or watch BBC programmes on iPlayer – live, catch up or on demand.
This applies to any device or provider you use, including a TV, desktop computer, laptop, mobile phone, tablet, games console, digital box or DVD/Blu-Ray/VHS recorder.
You could be prosecuted if we find that you have been watching, recording or downloading programmes illegally. The maximum penalty is a £1,000* fine plus any legal costs and/or compensation you may be ordered to pay.
It's pretty easy to be license free except one annoying thing is the ITV player often has the ability to click on live video and really you should have the ability to disable that in the options that also might be true of channel 4 and 5 but I rarely use those. I've disconnected my aerial and have been without a tv license for 3 years approx. If I want to watch anything on the BBC I go to my mother's who lives nearby and in those 3 years the only thing I wanted to watch on the BBC is war of the worlds and when I saw it, it was terrible a very amateur production with a terrible script.
As far as I understand I can still listen to BBC radio stations and my google speaker gives me BBC news highlights if I ask for news. I quite like listening to BBC radio without the adverts so happy to make use of that.
I'm a strong believer in taxation for providing services like the NHS etc but for entertainment services?!?
I'd personally fund BBC radio and the news service through general taxation and allow the entertainment service to fend for itself and should feature adverts like ITV. They have a huge back catalogue of programs that also provide some revenue around the world. I know the BBC is grossly inefficient with far too high salaries and over-sized buildings, some years ago they started using independent production companies because of the ridiculous costs of the BBC making programs themselves. When people have a guaranteed income stream they often become inefficient and this is unfair to tax payers who get poor value. There are many assets the BBC can sell off to re-organise themselves as a advertising revenue based tv service and I'm sure could create premium content, I.e. early viewings of their mainstream programs or longer episodes.
BonzoBanana thanks for giving me so much information but we do have tv license thanks
Sanitation1234 I was just making the point its relatively easy to live without a TV license in response to your comments. I thought it would be more difficult but don't miss the BBC at all and can still enjoy ITV, CH4 and CH5 plus other programs on digital services. I don't think people need to be worried about not having a tv license. You do need to disconnect aerial and satellite dishes though as they are mainly live services.
Everyone should cancel their TV license, they actually can’t do anything if you cancel your license and fill out a form online to say you do not need one. Even if you do watch live Tv, you haven’t got to prove that to them, and they cant send anyone round other than a salesman to try and make you purchase a license, which you refuse and never let in. When you look into the corrupt things that the money pays for it makes you sick. The likes of BBC presenters using £200 a day of our tax paying money to spend transport to and from work, even though they earn £250k a year and own their own vehicle. Why should we pay for the BBC to live the life of luxury.
But why should we have to fill in a form online to say we don't need a licence? We don't have to fill in a form to say we don't have a shotgun so don't need a shotgun licence. What about the people who don't have access to online facilities, they don't include a return envelope with their threatening letters - so why should they comply? And why should people have to waste their time.
I did, a few years ago, fill in the online form, but that didn't stop them continuing their harassment.
We're supposed to be in a country where we don't have to prove our innocence and where it's up to our accusers to prove our guilt.
No TV licence should be scrapped all together. Government get enough money taxing people wages they are getting too greedy now. Theyll tax and charge for everything.
Agree with the majority here licence should be scrapped. Let the BBC stand open their own two feet, like the many other commercial channels out there
We should use the Greek scheme, where a charge is added onto the electricity bill. If you use electricity you pay ..... nobody gets away with not contributing . If there is no license then we will be subject to advertising etc.
TV license should definitely be scrapped and I agree with Glitterandgold what they have done to the pensioners is disgusting. I don't care who is to blame government or BBC, the BBC take enough from us to cover at least giving pensioners exemption from the license.
You know what the problem is? People are genuinely *afraid* of cancelling their TV License because of the threats and myths they hear about it.
I don't watch Live TV so I have no reason to have the TVL and I never cared to watch the BBC either. Well, to be fair, BBC Wildlife was a really good series they produced years ago, but other than that? Nothing. I don't even care about Dr. Who.
Other countries don't have this license. It's truly a new era for U.K. to get it all fixed up.
Its time to scrap it,but theyd probably bring in a 'TV TAX' instead, like the pasty tax and bedroom tax etc.
Only thing i watch on bbc is eastenders & call the midwife, but i always record them, and i never get to watch till much later as im always too busy.yet im still paying for the rotten licence by direct debit.
I cancelled mine a couple of years back. I was fed up of paying for the bbc pedos and apart from gardeners world, nothing I wanted to watch. It seemed rather expensive for the sake of one show that I could watch at my parent's house. I think it is terrible that they have gone after the elderly to make up the money that they have lost due to people like me cancelling. My grandma gets pension credits, so she doesn't have to pay, but if she didn't quality for those why should my 87 year grandma with dementia have to pay? She stays home now pretty much all the time. her and every one else over 75. Screw the bbc! I think everyone should refuse to pay in protest; what would they do then?
I pay for it even though i cancelled sky 4 years ago, i use netflix, prime video etc on my android boxes. The only things i watch live is the rugby, love island and im a celeb. Everything else is on catch up or one of my subscriptions. It not worth the hassle of being threatened with fines to pay £12 a month I dont agree with them charging over 75s though, they have paid enough into everything over the years and their not given much thanks as it is, most of them on pensions are scraping to get by and when a lot of them dont go out the tv could be their only source of reality, confort or company.
The free TV license will be means tested for the elderly so probably most will still get it free but more well off pensioners will not. However this is a process that some may struggle with, forms to fill in I guess.
