What are they like as pets anyone with experience in them.
I grow up with German Shepard’s
And a white ball of fluff that reminded me of a sheep
I read that they loyal and gentle giants
I have a Siberian Huskey. Akita's are great looking dogs. But, any dog needs to raised and trained properly to be loyal and gentle.
If you have not seen the film 'Hachi a Dogs Tale' based on a true story from Japan, then visit the IMDB website and read about it. If you watch the film you will cry for ages after. Forgive me for that!
Ann1984 Akitas are similar, my neighbour has one. They can pull a tractor. If you want a dog you can let off the lead, do not get either. Their instinct is to chase. So they often run off however much you think they are loyal.
Also if you can see how much my dog loses her fur, from moulting, you would be on clean up duty many times a day with an Akita. The birds in our garden have very soft nests though. They steal it from the patio.
Ann1984 I was a kid in the 70s so bought up to watch the original Lassie and the Littlest Hobo TV shows. We often rescue unwanted pets from facebook etc and try and rehome them if we can't keep them. We have a Turtle, Tortoise, Dog, Cat, Axolotl at the moment. But, I am sure more will need a home soon.
Someone near us had an Akita, gorgeous looking dog but powerful. We often used to watch the dog taking her for a walk
