Alexa machine emulates Dead Relative voices

In the News

Alexa is being developed in such a way that she can emulate voices- even deceased relatives. There's a time to let go I'd say. How do we all feel about the prospect of resurrecting conversations with the dead?

telmel Nor you nor I T. I suppose we can all start to build an alternative existence in the Metaverse. That place where they have no legs lol. I may be a bit cheeky but I think I'll go with Pascal's Wager and stake my faith in an afterlife. One which I will inhabit only as/when and if .Then and only then will I speak to the many friends and family members who have wandered on ahead. Alexa perplexer lol

Howmuch I keep one of my late husband's jumpers and have a few photos of him scattered around the place but I would be spooked if I heard his voice. Mind you like me he was a musician so I still have old tapes of him playing and singing but I can choose a moment for them.Wouldn't want casual banter while I was doing the hoovering though lol.

MelissaLee1963 imagine your father lecturing about a fact and going on and on it would be quite satisfying saying Alexa stop.

I personally wouldn't use that function, if I had one, which I don't. But I can understand that some people might find it comforting and would want to use it.

its comforting to hear like a recording of a loved one or a voicemail but hearing something like his with a loved ones voice would be a bit weird and un-natural, they never said those words and its just programmed words that dont have the same meaning.

Sounds great for doing pranks but I'm not sure about the dead relatives voice. It wouldn't be their personality just their voice so would seem weird surely. It's not the same as a voicemail they left you.

It’s a little…creepy. Not sure if use myself but I suppose if it is any good I’m sure it will bring some people a lot of comfort.

The worrying thing with these voice simulators and deep fakes is it’s open to be abused and used for a whole host of dodgy things
