Have You Ordered An Amazon Mystery Box?

Ask a Question

Has anyone ordered an amazon mystery box and been happy with what arrived? I got a wee plastic bag with something to plug into car cigarette lighter, not sure what it is. I paid for the £77.99 surprise and to be honest I AM.

Is it not covered by the Amazon returns policy? If it isn't and you've paid £77.99 for some piece of tat that supposedly plugs into a car cigarette lighter, it might help you feel better if you actually did return it and suggest they plug it in somewhere else.

You could of course ask them when and how the car with the cigarette lighter, to use it, is arriving. :-)

I doubt it , as it will be Amazon Marketplace "tat" . Probably an FM tuner ? Widely available from Amazon Marketplace sellers for £6 - £8 but obviously reduced from a totally made up and unfeasible "Original selling price " of £60 to £80 odd .

I have spent the last 2 years on here urging members to compare items and learn the value before "liking" or even worse "buying " such items 🙄.

Golfforall You really shouldn't have needed to spend time urging people to compare prices or quality of items before buying them... it's common sense.* But it isn't common sense for people not to like items without checking when they're offered 25 points a day (over £9 a year) for spending just a few seconds a day excercising their clicking finger.

* unfortunately common sense isn't as common as its name implies.

a very valid point! I might 'gamble' a fiver ...tho I doubt it .....but even at that price I'd expect a deal and I would become very anti Amazon or anti any firm that ripped me off like that. I'd certainly say to return it! I can't see how Amazon can benefit? ... so much ill feeling and bad publicity.

davidstockport I agree with you but I do have common sense just didn't use good judgement in the early hrs. I don't believe that no one else has ever made a bad call but in no way does it make them stupid.

KarenBain In no way did I imply people without common sense were stupid. We all lack common sense at times😀,https://www.aconsciousrethink.com/12408/lack-common-sense/

Many years ago you used to get auctions where a box was sold for £5 and maybe there were 50 boxes and one contained something worth much more than £5. I never bought such a box but I remember someone who did and they got a clock so awful that it's wood veneer (plastic print) case only just had enough strength to keep its shape and at the centre of this clock was one of those super cheap clock mechanisms. Oh man it was so awful and tacky it just made me laugh how dire it was. I think in the end someone spilt water on it and it was like that witch in the wizard of oz that just melts. The case was partially a sort of cardboard and it just soaked up the water and disintegrated.

Perhaps I'm horrible for pointing this out but I saw a market in Africa on TV that seemed to sell the same clocks or very similar. Definitely a poverty spec product.

Anyway it put me off mystery boxes for life.

I was considering ordering a jewellery mystery box on Amazon, but decided not to. It's a nice idea to get a mystery box, but there are too many disappointed customers, like yourself, and that puts me off.

KarenBain The reviews on the one I was interested in were pretty bad. It's a shame because it is a fun idea to buy a mystery box.

Why would you ? All Amazon marketplace "Tat" and we all surely know by now the real "value " of such items 😏. So for say £50 you might get a Muscle massager (value £15 ) , resistance bands (value £6 ) and a useless IR thermometer (value £4 ) if you are lucky ! - Original selling prices 🙄 typically stated as £100 plus 😯. But we all surely know these items can be bought for £20 odd !

"Mystery Box " values will be justified by totally made up "original selling prices " and so you are very unlikely to be refunded .

When you can buy identical items for 10% - 20% of their purported " original selling prices " why buy blind ? Or to be perfectly honest why even contemplate buying any Amazon marketplace "Tat" ?

Golfforall I appreciate your reply. I agree with what your saying but as I hadn't done this before and it was very late I thought a surprise would be nice. Didn't put too much thought into it. Its my own fault that the surprise was crap. I will NOT do it again. Just wanted to warn others x

I bought a couple from eBay a few years ago and got 15 door handles in one (ideal as I was actually changing the door handles in my house at the time so it saved me having to go get some!) and 100 wrist lanyards for phones or cameras in the other (which I’m still working my way through now, and do use). I only spent £4.99 on each though, and wasn’t really bothered by what came. I was just curious. Never expected door handles though!

£70+ for a mystery box seems way excessive in cost. I have always thought I should try one (cheaper one though) but based one what I have read here I think I will forget it lol

ch7leach the value was £70.99 but I paid less on a deal. Either way it wasn't worth it .
