Yes....I complained about it ...They tell they take the money to check the card, payment method is working. Actually last time I talked with the customer service, they kind of blamed the bank, but it is Amazon`s fault.

They will give back the money after sometimes...but it is strange. I told them it is like a scam and they should not do it. Also it is happening with the same card again and again, so it can be the reason given.

Yes I’ve seen it a couple of times on my bank account !!! I wondered what it was for and have been meaning to contact amazon about it but until this I’d forgotten. Thanks for the reminder I’m about to contact amazon right now.

Just to let you know I’ve contacted amazon customer service this morning about this and told them I do not want it to happen again or I will close my account and I’ve just received an email saying that they have put £5 credit in to my amazon account 😊

Apparently the £1 charge never actually leaves the bank account they just do it to make sure your bank card is working !!!!

This from AMAZON might help:

About Authorisations for £1.00

In most cases, an amount of £1.00 showing on your account is related to one of our security measures to confirm the validity of your payment card.

When you place an order, sign up to a free trial, purchase a subscription and / or use a card for the first time, we may contact your payment card's issuing bank to confirm that your card is a valid number, and hasn't been reported as lost or stolen. This is communicated via a £1.00 authorisation.

An authorisation may also be displayed on your bank records for multiple cards if you’ve arranged for the return of an item in exchange for a refund or replacement. If either of these resolutions is arranged in advance of the item being returned, an authorisation ensures that the card is valid, should a payment need to be processed for an item that isn’t received by Amazon within the 30 day return period.

Amazon also has stringent measures in place to identify and protect against fraud. As part of this, we may run a check on your card that will show as a £1.00 authorisation.

However, we don't proceed with the charge and the £1.00 won't appear as a charge on your statement. The authorisation will lapse after no longer than 7 business days.
