Amazon to remove Condition Notes from items sold as New

News

Effective 22 February 2017, the Condition Note attribute will be disabled for all new products. If you do have new products listed with condition notes, the condition notes will be removed from the offer listing page. You can still continue to use the Condition Note attribute for all other product conditions.

I read this on my Amazon seller account and I have to say this is an incredibly moronic move by Amazon. Just because it's New that sometimes isn't enough to describe it.

Take collectors' for example, sometimes collectors' want to know the exact edition (English cover or foreign), model and if it's actually factory sealed (instead of resealed or used but sold as new).

While I don't for a second like eBay's fees, they offer a much better and convenient way of selling. I just sell stuff as a hobby and keeping the buyers' informed of what they're getting is very useful.

Anyway, anyone with questions can always send the seller a message.

Interesting! Have Amazon provided any reason as to why they're disabling the condition notes?

It sounds as if the condition notes were being slightly misused to provide more product details. I've not sold on Amazon before but could the edition, model etc go into the product description?

Kelsey Hi. The Product Page solely has information provided by Amazon themselves and that sometimes does not reflect on the actual products sold by third party sellers.

I just noticed that on the 20 and 22 there'll be changes at Amazon and IMDb. IMDb is owned by Amazon anyway.

This is because of abuse by sellers on Amazon. Different editions (foreign, collectors edition etc) have separate listings, so there's no reason to add a condition note. The 'New' category is for brand new and factory sealed items (not re-sealed or refurbished items!)

In fact there is, but Amazon is removing a very useful feature.

Giving more info about what's for sale is always a good thing. You might not appreciate that but I and others do.

Rockman If you are selling a brand new copy of the exact product on the product page, there is no need to qualify it with a condition note.

The only reason buyers find it useful is because they don't trust sellers to list their item in the right place.

They are removing the feature to try and stop the scammers who hijack legit seller accounts and use the, "conditions" field to promote an email address. This address is used to fool customers into contacting the scammers outside of Amazon.

Amazon is plagued by scammers.
