Amazon Scam Phone Recording
Ask a Question
My parents have just rung worried and say they answered a phone call and it was a recorded message from Amazon saying something like they were going to deduct £79 or so. Mum and dad don't know what for and although they have an Amazon account they rarely use it as I have prime so order anything they want to their address from my account. I've logged in and can see nothing on their account. Has anyone heard of this before? I'm guessing it is sort form of scam.
Thanks. I since found something similar but the amount seems odd. They have never been Prime customers.
rararachel They are targeting people who haven't had Prime before saying that they're going to pick up £79.
Whatever they do, they shouldn't follow any instructions given in the call.
I get these all time had been quiet during lockdown then had a call from French number she knew my name and address she goes on saying am going to be disconnected etc so me plays dumb I say and next you going to tell me if I pay a one off fee am OK, lady yes that's correct mamm me I tell you what you go and suck d**k
I’ve not heard of this one before but there are loads making the rounds. Thanks for the heads up
I have heard that some scam amazon emails have been sent with dodgy links to confirm accounts. Never click on the links
I've had scam emails before but this was a recording to a landline apparently telling them they owed £79 (or £75 dad couldn't be sure). Dad just wrote down the amount and hung up so I don't know any other details.
rararachel Maybe you should get your parents a phone that blocks all unknown numbers from coming through?
Mine stops all calls from unknown numbers. It also has caller ID. And it has an option to route all calls that are not from known contacts to go through something called Call Guardian which will ask the caller to say who they are before you answer the call.
Or you can leave it go to the answer phone. Most scammers and automated messages won't leave a reply.
TheChimp unfortunately they run a business from home so it wouldn't work blocking all unknown numbers. They do tend to get a lot of scam calls though.
