Anyone Else Been Made Redundant?
Ask a Question
I have for first time in my life. Lucky to have negotiated a good leaving deal and have a bit of work lined up. Will have to claim jobseekers as well as only 16hrs a week. How has everyone coped with it?
I’ve not personally been made redundant but my partner is at risk of it and the payouts sound ridiculous - his colleague has just been paid off and given £1600, he had worked for the company for 4 years, apparently you get £400 per year of working for them.. I don’t know if that’s normal but it doesn’t sound like a lot!
I've never been made redundant but my ex was which prompted him to go self-employed, the payout was not great after 25 years. This may give you an idea of what you might get https://www.gov.uk/calculate-your-redundancy-pay
lilyflower yes I used that calculator and also there are extra things you can add onto your negotiating too
Freebiesarefun thanks! That’s definitely worth looking at, I didn’t realise there was room for negotiation - i assume if the company shuts down, they dont have to negotiate with their staff at all and you just get what you are given
Ive not recently been made redundant but have in the past and didnt cope very well. Was told last minute that we would all be out of a job by end of week, I ended up claiming universal credit for a few month before i ended up back in employment
That’s good you managed to get a new job. I still want to get a full time job but the industry I’m in jobs are posted specific times of the year
