Has Anyone Noticed a Lack of Supermarket Brand Block Butter?

Other

I buy tubs of spreadable but also blocks for baking etc.

When the big brands reduced size (250 gms to 200gms) but increased the price the supermarkets kept to 250gms and were always cheaper. For the last 3 or 4 grocery shops I have not been able to get any Sainsburys block butter so yesterday went to Tesco. No Tesco block butter either!

The last few years I have become very cynical and I would bet that when the supermarket block butter is once more on sale it will be smaller and dearer. I am waiting with bated breath!

I can see them reduced to the size you get at hotel buffets eventually L , and they will still charge the same price 🙄

I don’t buy the blocks use to, like you I buy the spreadable, couldn’t believe one I had stocked in fridge now using was the same date as the two purchased today. Clearly rubbish at their stock rotation!

I get the willow butter and flora buttery I don't think they have changed the size of them but the price for the flora is a joke £3 for 250g lucky Asda has a offer on 1kg for £2.40 so i got a few in

Leannexxx that's the way to do it. I don't use Willow as it's a butter alternative, but can be used for most things, I would use it for baking but have stork at the mo.

I am always able to get block butter in Lidl and Aldi. I don't buy it often but always able to get it when I need it.

MrsCraig I really don't know why I keep ignoring Lidl and Aldi, I will have a look next time I am out as I have at least 3 quite near to me.

Lynibis I was in Lidl last night and there was loads of block butter so definitely worth a look next time you are near one.

I used to get the farmfoods butter and was amazing value at 99p although only a 227g size but then it went to £1.29, then £1.49 and now £1.69 I think which is about the same price as other supermarkets when you take the smaller size into account. It was a very good deal while it lasted. My mother got a good deal at M&S as I think she had 15 or 20% off butter and a few other products with her sparks card and went for the better value 500g packs so it turned out cheaper than the other supermarkets on this rare occasion for M&S. I think the packs were £3.20 before the discount or possibly £3.30. It's a really nice butter too noticeably nicer than Farmfood butters which I think are from Ireland and never seem quite as nice although there isn't a lot in it.

JLouM I don't use red top, always semi skimmed. But that's weird about the butter, maybe you can let me know if the blocks are still 250 gms and same price😊

JLouM thanks, I hope they are not using up old stock and the new stock will be dearer/smaller.

Doing my online shop this morning and it's still out of stock, this must be at least 4/5 weeks now.

Lynibis Maybe a local issue to you for some reason. I'm down in Somerset so there are dairy farms around here and lots of farming produce. I've not seen any issues for butter supply. Yeo Vally factories are nearby and they make their own butter as well as being a OEM supplier I think.

BonzoBanana as I said in my topic, it seems to be just Sainsbury's own brand, there is no issue with names brands. I hope I am wrong in my guess that new stock will be smaller and possibly dearer too. It is about now I start stocking it in freezer for making mince pies.
