Anyone Paid a Deposit to Thomas Cook Then Have to Cancel? Fees Help!
Ask a Question
Need some advice folks.
I booked a holiday for 2 via TCook, paid a deposit of £150 back in Jan 19, the remainder of the balance to be cleared in March 19.
The other person has decided they dont want to go. T Cook wants £200 per person b4 end of March to cancel holiday.
Advise welcome? Can I not just accept i've lost deposit money and not pay balance end of March.. or Thomas Cook going to chase me for this money?
Deposit paid via c card
My understanding is if your hotel or airline makes significant changes to your booking you can cancel without paying a fee. As this isn't the case, you do not have any legal rights to cancel and you will need to adhere to your booking terms and conditions. Unless you're able to transfer your booking to someone else, I think you'll have to pay the cancellation fees. If you don't, Thomas Cook's debt collectors will be chasing you, you will receive a summons, and it will end up costing you even more. Sooner or later your non-payment of the debt will affect your credit rating.
A good tip is to take out travel insurance the moment you book a holiday, then if illness means you cannot travel you should be covered. If you leave buying insurance to the last minute it's too late.
