Anyone Work for Royal Mail? Is There a Problem?

Other

I recently visited son and his wife and took a birthday card containing a gift voucher for my grandson who is away at university. He was coming home for the weekend after but my son wanted him to have his cards/gifts on the day so posted them (registered) on Monday for the Thursday. They went first class and have still not arrived!

I was telling my boss about it (we live in different area to my son) and he said he had sent something 1st class on Monday which had still not arrived.

I have not heard of mail delays, has anyone else?

It was a £75 gift voucher in Grandson's card!

Apparently it is due to staff shortages . (at least round here) , was in our local paper today . Only the timed deliveries ( 48 hour , special delivery and such ) are being honoured - but First Class are being delivered within 6 days (Marvellous! ) - We are assured 🙄.

Thanks for letting me know. I wonder why there are staff shortages right now. I would have thought folk would be clamouring for jobs, might look into it myself, good exercise if nothing else!

Lynibis It would be nice if they prewarned us (their customers) ? The paper only got a statement after repeated requests .

Could be more widespread , we are PE postcode , if so I would expect the National press to be on it shortly .

Golfforall yes, definitely, had we been told my son would not have sent the cards but waited for the weekend. I am just hoping £75 hasn't been nicked!

Lynibis It'll be safe - just sitting in a Sorting office somewhere 😏.

there are staff shortages in most driving jobs around the UK at the moment. especially some of the delivery companies many are struggling to keep the numbers they need for normal work - trying to recruit extra for the Christmas rush is going to be fun for many of them

I've had birthday card not turned up especially when there is money inside. it has happened to me in the past so I would not post anything with value unless it's recorded delivery... And recently I had some keys sent back to me through the post and just got a empty envelope so I rang the customer service and they do not have a lost property they told me but hopefully you'll get yours delivered.

Post is taking ages at the moment. Up until a few weeks ago, we only saw a postie if someone nearby ordered a covid test it seemed!

I had something dispatched to me last Friday and still no sign of it. This is a monthly subscription and normally it arrives within two days.

I've noticed that recently.

Still, I trust Royal Mail far more than I'd ever with Hermes and such to deliver packages.

I ordered Christmas presents early this year to make sure that they arrived on time due to the shortage of delivery drivers. Bought my son's birthday presents a whole month early too, just in case there was supply issues due to the driver shortage.

My mother in law sent us 2 parcels for our son, she sent them from Northern Ireland and they arrived in the Highlands of Scotland the next day, which neither of us expected.

I hope the gift voucher hasn't been taken.

Thanks MrsCraig I am staying optimistic. I would have preferred my son to have kept it at his home until grandson got there but his intentions were good.

Lynibis it's one of those situations where hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I'm planning to send our Christmas cards earlier this year, not that I send many, but want them to get to NI in time.

For anyone who likes updates on threads I am happy to report that grandson finally received his cards and vouchers today!

A postman told me there's a shortage of employees and now it's taking longer to receive parcels than usual.

Other companies appear to be affected like Inpost. Something that should take 2-3 days to deliver has been delayed.

I’ve had the opposite experience with a parcel I sent second class arriving the next day!

As you can all see above my problem had a happy conclusion. Recently I ordered 3 velvetisers. Two arrived next day and the third the day after so very good service from royal mail on that occasion. Maybe they are prioritising business parcels ahead of the general public.

I have a relative who is a postman and he said they are not differentiating between first and second class post at the moment, so don’t waste your money on first class stamps!

Thanks for that, useful to know and I would advise everyone to post things well ahead to avoid disappointment.

A lady who bought from me via eBay just received her package, and I sent it on November 13.

Plus, she told me she'd gotten ten other packages she'd been waiting for as RM in her area is pretty dire. Dang, that's pretty bad considering RM is supposed to be the best out there.

Still, I'd rather use them even with these delays than Hermes.

Royal mail is falling behind other companies for delivering...
