Avocado Fans - How to Choose Them
Ask a Question

I do love avocado, which wasn’t something I enjoyed when I was younger, but now I really enjoy having it about twice a week if I can buy decent ones at a good price
I don’t want them too ripe, and I tend to have it as part of a side salad to my meals, or smashed onto the patty of my burgers
How do you have yours?
I have tried avocado on its own and personally do not like it. I have tried it on toast with chilli and that was definitely not for me. I can eat when it’s mage into guacamole but has to served with nachos and cheese.
I love it mashed onto some seeded toast with a big drizzle of Balsamic Vinegar for breakfast.
The problem that I have with avocados is that there's a small window when it's perfect, a bit like bananas.
I love them too, but they can be hit and miss. If you don't buy them ripe and ready, sometimes they don't ripen even in a brown paper bag. Also the ripe and ready can be rotten. I'm like you, I like mine just turning ripe. I have them in a Salad or in a Sandwich either with Ham, Prawns, Salmon, Smoked Salmon. I even have it on its own in a Sandwich with a sprinkling of Salt.
Eating avocados provides powerful health benefits because they are packed with healthy fats, fiber, and essential vitamins.
Heart Health
Lowers bad cholesterol: Avocados contain monounsaturated fats that help reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol and raise HDL (good) cholesterol.
Lowers heart disease risk: Regular intake is linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular and coronary heart disease according to long-term studies.
Regulates blood pressure: They are rich in potassium, which helps keep blood pressure numbers down.
Digestion and Weight Control
Keeps you full: The combination of fiber and healthy fats slows digestion and increases feelings of fullness.
Aids weight management: Feeling satisfied longer helps prevent overeating and snacking on processed foods.
Improves gut health: High fiber content promotes regular digestion and a healthy digestive tract.
Yummy
I so wish I liked Avocados because they are so very healthy but I just cant get on with any of them.
MelissaLee1 haha this is a cute avocado
gif! Now I’m craving to actually eat one hahaha
they are very filling to eat for breakfast in a sandwich
or as a snack too. I get some that are on price offer or when they are reduced as most are either just about right to eat or they are still hard and will eventually ripen
Foul things. We get them in our Aldi Too Good To Go bag every so often and they're put straight in the bin
Fortunately, I do enjoy avocados now & I’ve even had them in shakes & ice cream, & they were delicious. I find them enjoyable to eat & it’s quite affordable to buy nowadays. I’ve tried to grow some myself, but after sprouting, nit much progress happens & they die - guess we don’t have the right environment for them
I eat avocado alot. For breakfast ill just mash it on a sourdough slice with some pepper, sometimes ill have it with poached eggs. Its also nice on s hallomi burger with tomato slices. I do have to pick my own tho, there always rock hard otherwise
Avocados are very delicious and a big part of that, in my opinion, is down to the texture. There is nothing worse than looking forward to an Avocado only for it to not be ripe yet, or worse still, have gone to mush.
I will save this picture so I can make sure I only buy ripe Avocados from now on.
jms19 the mushy ones are great for guacamole or if you want to spread some smash avocado on your toast - tastes great with a bit of chilli, a sprinkle of sea salt & some olive oil (far more nutritious than butter alone). I have been sprinkling black sesame seeds also - anything with added nutrition is good
I'm not a fan of avocados at all, I have no idea how everyone enjoys it on toast. I have tried it in different dishes and I just don't get on with it. I don't know if it's the taste or texture but it's not for me.
Thanks for sharing this image as it’s useful to know and help see when avocados are ready to eat and how good the qualities are of them. I buy when on price offer or when they are reduced. I always choose ones that are just about ready to eat or if they aren’t I just let them ripen to eat them later on
