Best Baby Formula for Newborn?

Ask a Question

Hi guys..

Hope you all are doing well in this lockdown.

I was wondering what you all think about baby formulas?

What would you recommend is the best for a 3 week old baby?

How much would you give the baby per bottle and how many times a day?

I am trying to breastfeed and top up with the formula, but I am not sure that formula is the best.

Please let me hear your thoughts...

Thank you and stay safe!!

Leannexxx oh trust me she does... she wakes up to feed. i start breastfeeding and then she gets fed up with it and starts crying and screaming. you should see the panic and the cry. it is like i would never feed her. so i have to top up with the bottle.

AndreaAndzic I tried feeding my first for 3 weeks, he took ages per feed then screamed within 15 minutes of 'finishing'. Health Visitor said to persevere! Middle of 4th week I gave him a bottle (Cow & Gate 4oz/110ml) and we had peace for 3 whole hours, his weight went up and everyone was happy. And likeLeannexxx I never woke them to feed them. He went on to sleep from 7pm - 8am with a nap midday until he was two - bliss 🙂

thank you. i dont wake her up. that is one thing that my mum told me not to do before she passed away.

i am worried that my milk is not enough because i am under stress of losing my mum 2 weeks before my baby girl was born.

and on top of all that i have next door neighbour from hell that is making my life difficult every second of the day playing music and acting like my garden is hers and does whatever she wants.

can it be that my milk is not ok?

AndreaAndzic Sorry about your Mum, you do have a lot of stress. You may be like I was and just not making enough milk, not everyone can produce lots of milk, but do not think you are a failure. Give your little girl a bottle, keep her well fed and happy that then takes some stress of you and talk to your daughter about her granny. Hugs to you both 🙂

I used cow and gate was drinking around 3oz but would make 4 just incase. I did used to wake mine at night just before I went to sleep so I would get sleep and they would settle all night. All babies are different I would stick with bottle yes they say breast is best but if baby struggling to get any milk you will have your boob out all time. A little tip I used to use a flask bring kettle to temperature that baby likes to drink her milk and pour the water inside flask and if went out flask came with me and had them milk storage pots. No more waiting for water to cool I took it to bed too because hated walking down stairs to kitchen

It doesn't matter what formula you use, if you look at the ingredients, all formulas are the same. We had a dietician for our son and she told us it didn't matter what one he got as they were all the same. We bought Aptimal to begin with and then switched to cow and gate because it was cheaper and he was going through a litre a day.

In terms of how much to give it will have a guideline on the side of the box.

In terms of your milk production, any amount you are giving her is a bonus. My son physically couldn't breastfeed so I expressed and gave it to him in a bottle. He was put on prescription milk and he got 80% prescribed milk and 20% breast milk. Even a small amount of breast milk is better than nothing and it is all about what's best for your baby. Breast milk wasn't enough for our son, his heart condition meant he used up a lot of calories and energy and breast milk just didn't cut it. Do what is best for your baby and don't stress about your milk production.

hi, thank you so much for this information about the milk. It really helped me a lot.

You really calmed me down about that milk. I am so grateful to all advise.

I will keep breastfeeding.

AndreaAndzic you're welcome, I struggled with breastfeeding so a number of reasons and a nurse and the dietician helped to reassure me and that was the advice they gave me. Trust me, you are doing a brilliant job.
