I would have a look at the jars to see what flavours they do, then make your own.

Start them off on sweet flavours as that is what they are used to from their milk.

Try cooked and mashed vegs, scrambled egg, mashed banana, peeled, cooked and mashed apple.

Get a weaning recipe book and try introducing finger food. The Annabel Karmel books are amazing. Also try the baby led weaning app, it is a free recipe book. You can follow both on instagram and they show you recipes on there too. Annabel Karmels page has a list of finger foods to give to babies.

Whatever food you give them never add salt to it.

KazLou no problem. I've not started weaning my wee one yet but it won't be much longer so I started looking into it, plus we got a book from the hospital that had loads of info on weaning and recipes.

If you have any friends who have recently been through the weaning process, I would ask them for advice.

Introduce things gradually, if they don't take it one day, wait a few days and try again. Don't worry if they only eat small amounts at first. They will let you know when they are done.

45 years ago when mine were babies there was not all the help/publicity etc that we have now. I began by blending everything my husband and I ate adding a little boiled water if it was too thick. Even roast dinners were blended and they absolutely loved them. As they got bigger it was ready brek for breakfast, mashed or blitzed fruit for lunch, yoghurts etc and our dinner blended for them later while they continued to have a small bottle before bed.

Neither had dummies, both were off bottle by 1 year old and neither were ever fussy eaters, they ate everything put in front of them. I hate seeing school age children giving so much grief to parents because they refuse to eat quite normal every day things that are good for them.

If I had my time again I would not give them any sugar except what naturally occurred or was in the yoghurts etc. Until they are at least 3 or 4 they are not able to access food themselves and by then you will have saved a lot of problems with regard to future sugar addiction as they will probably not enjoy it, not being used to it.

I see so many kids being given bags of sweets etc at the school gates, even coming out with sweets from a well meaning parent with a birthday child in class. Sweets are an everyday normality, not an occasional treat and what with lack of exercise we have unfit children who are often far too overweight these days. I hardly ever saw a fat child when I was growing up, and we were not starved, just not given all the empty calories and we were out playing lots more.

I could ramble on but am going off subject so will stop!
