Bag Charge At Tesco For Home Delivery?

I've just noticed that Tesco have been charging me 40p for bags for home delivery even though I am signed up to no bags and even the odd time I've had them I didn't realise I was being charged for them, I've just spotted it by chance when I was checking something, they are the large bags that fill the delivery baskets, not ordinary carrier bags, is it a compulsory thing they have bought in, I thought I'd ask to see if anybody knew as opposed to getting in their queuing system!
The same happened to me. I was told bags aren’t optional during a pandemic and they would be charging for them whether I wanted them or not.
Oh I see cocolgooh ! It would have been a waste of time me ringing up and asking about it then, it's a pain we have no choice as I find they are too big to do anything with and they are going straight in the bins as soon as I've unpacked my shopping! I perfer them as so much quicker on door with yhe driver who may have been in contact with covid but i do miss the bags
Ann1984 Well I agree there Ann, it is quicker but I purposely asked for no bags, apart from all this waste, it's also a waste of my money, binning bags I don't want in the first place, I'm not tight but I do begrudge paying extra for these bags when they make such a muck up of my shopping each week, I had to post pictures on Facebook again after this weeks shop, that's 2 weeks running and it makes no difference, they are a law unto themselves Tesco

I don’t think Tesco are the only ones. I’m sure I paid for bags on my Morrisons delivery but didn’t complain as I appreciate the service.
I get my online shop at asda. I've said no bags, I put a few cardboard boxes by door when getting delivery to fill
That's a good idea Imnotcheap, as long as you can get hold of cardboard boxes of course!

I dread delivery because Sainsbury's put everything loose in a crate (the odd bag where absolutely necessary). I am so aware of the guy standing waiting in the cold and my heating rushing out the door so last time I took out the eggs and just tipped the rest over the hall floor, hoping nothing would break.
Imnotcheap yes I have lots of bags but don't see the point of transferring to bags which takes ages and chills my house, only to walk a couple of paces and empty again. I just shut the front door and the the kitchen door is off the hall so I put away the cold and frozen stuff then the store cupboard stuff.
Imnotcheap Well yes I do, but if the shopping is already in those large delivery tray thing bags there would be little point, he might think I'm slightly eccentric if I take stuff out the large bags and put it in carrier bags

You're so right that they shouldn't force you to pay for something you don't want, especially if you have specifically opted out of bags. If you shop 10 times, you've spent £4 on something you don't want and can't use. One thing that you can do is cut down the number of deliveries. So maybe shop monthly instead of weekly? Fewer deliveries = fewer charges for bags.
kfe202 Ha! That's a good question, the first thing you'd think of is to go without something each week, but I don't think I've bought anything worth 40p for years nothing is that cheap, so it would have to be monthly, 
I don't honestly know, I do try not to do many impulse buys nowadays, ebay doesn't count of course what could you do without?? x
