Barristers and Their Wages

In the News

I'm not a barrister and I don't really know any, but as far as I was aware, it is perhaps rewarding work opposed to being one that you make a fortune with - but to compare it to the wages of a McDonald's worker?

But if mcdonalds workers took their travel time, extra 10 minutes worked here and there and travel costs they would be on a lot less. Bit of a nonsense report by the BBC really.

indeed - perhaps it is leading up to an article where they are going to start comparing BBC exec jobs to other professions? that would be interesting!

The criminal area is probably the one that pays the least, I'm sure if they go and talk to a Barrister in the financial area, they'll see that the salary is much higher.

yes, I'd imagine so. At least it is a profession that people perhaps look up to, and will have its own rewards you can never get with money 👍

No one thinks they earn enough money.....usually because they spend what they earn and nothing is left over. I retired from main job in 2011 and had, in the last year, reached the pinnacle of my lifetime earning power...25k. I was second from top in the office. I lived well, ran car, had mortgage, had holidays, didn't smoke or drink. Was content.

Granddaughter recently started teaching and is on 27.5k in her first year! She works very hard and gets exhausted but at least every 6 or 8 weeks she has a good break to catch up and she loves the job.

People need to budget better and learn to be content if they can afford to house and feed themselves and family, pay the bills and enjoy life in between. I feel sorry for those who cannot afford to do any of that.

very true, and making comparisons never helps, as it usually makes people depressed to see that other have more than what they have - coveting is never a good thing (and I very much doubt that barristers envy McDonald's workers)
