Baths - Inspiration
Ask a Question
I've been looking at different styles of baths for our house renovation. I like the inset kind of one's you would tile around but the other half prefers the free standing ones. I've got a feeling the free standing ones would be a nightmare for plumbing in a bungalow as most I've seen have floor standing taps which wouldn't be an issue with floorboards upstairs but as we will have solid floors and it's a bungalow I suspect the only option is wall mounted which then kind of defeats the object of it being free standing if it needs to be close to a wall for the taps!
Can anyone inspire me with bath pictures?
Thanks I've looked on Google images but I'm more after real opinions/inspiration and practical views.
rararachel We had a cast iron slipper bath installed in a previous home, and got around the it 'needs to be near the wall for plumbing' problem by installing it on a large wooden platform, to hide the pipework. The platform needs to be big so that you can get in and out of the bath easily. (i.e. you need to maintain the standard distance between the top of the bath and the floor, otherwise it's like trying to get on, or off, a bicycle that's way too big for you). I'm not explaining this very well...
Johnny ah ok I think I understand! So basically a large step. Did you have a floor standing tap then? I'd be a bit worried about our tiling/whatever we have on the floor. ...
Johnny we bought a bath!
Ex display showroom and got a free tap thrown in after some hard negotiation. I love it. Here is a picture.
Johnny Actually you explained that very well Johnny - a solution to that problem could be to be to extend the platform that the bath stands on so it almost becomes a false floor, or partially so you could have a bathroom where the floor is on two levels.
I checked to see if anyone else had thought of this... they had!
davidstockport That's it, exactly. Thanks. The picture on the right brings back memories of the one we had.
Johnny And that on the right is the AFTER picture it would IMO have been better to extend the platform so the step was further away from the bath.
Some don't realise that it's easier to get in and out of a bath where the bottom of the bath is at the same level as the floor that's if you can get your leg over (hope the censors don't object).
davidstockport that is exactly what we have spoken to the builder about doing so we will step off the bath onto the platform so making it almost double the width of the bath itself.
