Beales to Close More than Half of Its Stores
In the News
Department store chain Beales is to close 12 of its shops in a bid to sell the rest.
Efforts to sell all 23 outlets together have failed, the administrators KPMG said.
The dozen being closed will trade for a few weeks to sell remaining stock, and staff will keep their jobs until then.
The following stores will close:
Bournemouth
Hexham
Worthing
Tonbridge
Peterborough
Mansfield
Keighley
Perth
Spalding
Wisbech
Bedford
Yeovil
Yes, it could be. I thought they were a northern department store as I hadn't heard of them when I lived in with South of England, but I see from the closure list that there are stores in Bournemouth & Worthing (which wasn't a million miles away from where I was) so they must be quite widespread even if not considered a national.
tumblespots Yes Indeed, I visit Bournemouth fairly frequently and I've not stumbled upon it.
blacklabrador And you won't do soon anyway as it will be closing! but you might notice a new store replacing it?
Caz2 They are a department store. I hadn't heard of them until I moved to the east midlands, but apparently they do have stores in the south too.
They probably should do really, they are very overpriced. We went into our local one which said it was closing down, but isn't on the newly released list, and even the 'knock-down' prices were expensive!
Beales is the only department store I think in Yeovil, where I am. Quite an important store and will be a huge loss to the town. When one big store closes it often effects smaller stores around it that also get reduced footfall. It's not good. Not my sort of store though. A bit like Debenhams which I also don't use.
You are right shops are closing down right left and centre and it is never good for the town concerned.
I think Booths might be next in the north.especially the one where theyve just opened an M&S foodstore opposite.Booths prices are even more expensive than m&s food.
And John Lewis were in trouble weren't they,a bit back? Too many fingers in too many pies, theyve got waitrose as well with them i think.
Its all the 'higher priced' stores, cause all us 'underlings' () cant afford them-heck,even the rich can't afford 'em
The one near me has had a closing for refurbishment sale at 75% off for the last year and even at the reduced prices it was twice the price of everywhere else
I've never heard of this store. No idea what they sell. That probably helps explain their closure.
I had never heard of them until I moved here but apparently they are quite widespread, or at least they were....
