Benjamin Franklin Was Ahead of His Time.

This is so true. Especially now, in countries where its governments are placing lockdowns to make citizens feel "safer" due to COVID-19. Remember, once they surrender their freedom, they'll obey and forget their freedom.
Holidays? Walking down the street? Visit friends and family? Help out others? They can't because they were told not to.
We talk a lot in our house about the erosion of the pre-covid freedoms which were taken for granted and we believe they may never be re-instated. It is far easier for a government to control a population by passing draconian laws (in times of trouble) and keeping them once things improve. We all need to be mindful of the freedoms that we are 'giving away' at the moment. Remember 1984 and think GIlead!
I disagree we covid apart have more freedom than previous generations the laws would not be allowed to stay unnecessarily in a democracy
Paranoid thinking doesn't help the situation
How exactly do you have more freedom when they demand that you stay locked in your house and be limited to certain locations and hours? That doesn't make sense.
I'd rather be "paranoid" than live in fear that the virus is everywhere and should remain at home at all times.
I said apart from covid
Don't paroid peopletend to live in fear of thing that probably won't happen. I'd rather fear things that could really kill PhilipMarc
Yes,I can see your point. It would have been far better for us all to have kept our 'freedoms' and spread covid. All running around like headless chickens shaking hands, hugging, being mask free, killing off all the oldies and vulnerable generally whooping it up just as if nothing was at all wrong. Bubonic plague and Black Death springs to mind, but then of course they knew no better back then.
And yes, I can just imagine the great British public allowing restrictions to continue once the danger has passed. Mmmmm what were all those protests and riots recently?
Maybe we should all take a stark look at ourselves and realise we are the ones to blame for all this. The way we treat our earth and mother nature is abominable......is it any wonder she is fighting back. Look up Gaia theory.
How a misquote can be thought to be "so true" defies belief. what BF actually said was:
“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
Any slight liberty lost to help others is not essential.
And the lives saved by compliance with regulations to help others is not temporary.
In fact death is quite permanent. As over 40 thousand in the UK have already discovered.
Exactly - I even fail to see how conforming with regulations made for the general good is giving up freedom when the intention is to help all to gain the freedom to live in a safer and civilized society. Anything else is anarchy.
