I can't recall being offered any profound piece of advice, but it would have been nice if someone had said put all your money into Bitcoins when it was starting up
Its more of a saying than advice but my mother always says ‘smile on your face, murder in your heart’ So when people annoy me and i want to go mad i just smile
Ooooooooooh not sure I like that lol. If people annoy me I just inwardly shrug and accept that I probably annoy others too. A lot of insight comes with age and I have learned that so many arguments i had when young, or things that ruffled my feathers were so stupid to have wasted time and energy on.
If everyone took that advice how much better the world would be. Politicians the world over could do with taking it.
When friends are about to have their first child I always give them the best piece of advice that I was given all those years back. "Ignore any advice you are given".
zerocenturyzero All you get from friends and family is a barrage of advice on "how to". If you ignore them and do what you feel is the best thing for your baby/child then I believe you will do the best for them.
jmsonl yes, there is nothing worse than interfering family and times and advice do change over the years. I am a Libran so am cursed with seeing both sides of most topics and here is a good example:
My DIL took the advice I gave about routine being important for a new baby. Along the lines of bath, feed, bed at the same time every night. My grandson very soon slept through the night as my two had done. I also warned her that from about 6 months on he will begin to understand things and will 'try it on' at bedtime. Sure enough one night she put him down usual time and left the room....he began crying. Feeling awful she stood outside and timed the crying (obviously she did not want him to become overwrought) and he cried for just over 7 minutes before realising his crocodile tears were not working and he went to sleep. The next night he cried for only 3 or 4 minutes and the 3rd night he went straight to sleep again and no problem. She thanked me for my advice as she had been dreading months of sleepless nights.
Lynibis I am sure there is always good advice to be given in this respect. I just posted the advice I was given as it was the best piece of advice you’ve ever received as the topic states. Sorry if I have annoyed you with this. Good parents can give good advice to their kids about their kids.
jmsonl don't be daft.....you've not annoyed me at all.....just think some advice is worth taking. In the end probably best to just listen, smile and judge the advice yourself, take it if it makes sense, bin it if it doesn't.
By the way, this is from Versailles, a great series if you've never watched.
I can't remember being given any really good advice but when I got married my father in law told his son (my husband) 'there is nothing you can get from another woman that you can't get from your wife if you go about it the right way'. Shame he didn't listen as he is now on his 4th wife!
Make the most of today because you dont know whats going to happen tomorrow. It doesnt always work when im stressing but it helps
My parents always told me if you can't afford it don't buy it. My parents have never been in debt because they followed this advice. My mum still tells me about when they couldn't afford a washing machine and you didn't have credit cards so you had to save up for things! I've followed their advice and luckily it has paid off for me. I don't have a credit card and have never even thought about getting one.
