All depends on their temperament tbh.

We've tried training Harvey, but he was so pig-headed that we didn't have a chance.

He's got a lot better over the last year, but he can still be a naughty boy.

Awww Harvey looks so cute yet cheeky! Was he a rescue dog too? A small dog will probably be the next member of our family 😋

AliceBell64468 We had him from a farm. I think that they would have 'got rid' of him if we hadn't taken him.

Best advice I can offer is repetition; if you tell and show a dog how to do something, they will eventually catch on. That worked even for my 2 Dogue de Bordeaux, which are notoriously stubborn.

Seeing as you’ve rescued (thank you for being a good person), my biggest advice would be to be patient and be very aware of the dog for the first few months - you don’t know the dogs past, it could have triggers that you won’t find out about for weeks or months. They say it takes a rescue dog 3 months to feel comfortable in your home with you - go at their pace and let them adjust without expecting too much from them. Give them unconditional love and you will get so much from them in return.

Image this was Bolto when I first met him on a volunteering day at the dogs home and went to visit him for 2 weeks until he was confident enough to come home with me. He was such a nervous wreck and even tried to jump out of the van window on the way home! It takes a lot of patience and hard work to gain a nervous dogs trust so do your best to stick with it they are nervous. You should watch some tips from Cesar Milan the dog whisperer he is amazing.. luckily my boyfriend is like a dog whisperer so he is brilliant with dogs, and knows exactly how to handle them. Discipline is important so they know you are the boss but must be done in the correct way, like no smacking or hitting just verbal telling off. I would recommend as a starting point watching some tip videos to point you in the right direction. This is my handsome Bolto now, still not 100% but he’s come on miles since we have had him 😍 Image

Are there any local dog training classes you can take him/her too. Try to socialise your dog it is good to get them around other dogs and humans. Reward good behaviour with treats and use 1 word commands when instructing you’re dog to do something so that it doesn’t get confused
