Best Musical Instrument to Get Your Children Into?
Ask a Question
my friend would like to get her child into learning a musical instrument, and they asked for recommendations of something that's easier to grasp and can sound good fairly easily, and fairly comfortable on the ears? (e.g. Not a violin as the can't deal wil the early days noise.

Keyboard. Doesn't take up much room, easy to learn the different scales and fairly simple to note read in the early days. Plus it is easier to learn on a keyboard and then progress to something like piano. Or the guitar, but it is slightly more difficult to note read but once they get they hang of it is fine. I learnt 4 instruments as a child. These 2 were the easiest for me and I would definitely recommend keyboard, especially if they are young.

My kids liked the idea of my guitars. So I bought them a ukulele which can be bought for a low cost. So if they break it I have not broke the bank. Then if they dislike the instrument you take it and play it yourself.

I was going to suggest ukulele especially for children with small hands, anything learned is virtually transferable to guitar later on. Too many children are daunted by a full size guitar and are put off learning to play any instrument.
It's better if purchasing to get someone who knows about musical instruments to help you choose, perfectly playable ukes can be purchased for under £20 but some are unsuitable for learning on and are little more than toys.

davidstockport and SaverDeals I own this ukulele. Not the cheapest and no where near anything expensive. It is used by a 6 and 9 year old and is great quality with lovely sound.

jmsonl It looks good - too many people think the ukulele is a toy guitar, I've got a few: a soprano; two concert banjo ukes, and a tenor uke. This is how a ukulele can sound I've met Andy a few times and can assure anyone there's nothing faked about this video, incidentally the Uke is a Martin and worth thousands.

My daughter also studying the guitar class at her school music class and she loves to learn it and so it will be good to by the guitar for the kids

is your daughter naturally musical? As worry it could be too complex for her son who isn't generally so technical.
