Best Supermarket Own Brand Bleach
Ask a Question
What is the best supermarket own brand bleach and do they really do the job?
I think the same, it is what it is, all does the same, some have a thicker consistency and some have different scents but always go for cheapest
sarahgreen15 Not necessarily some bleaches are thick, thin, different fragrances, different colour etc
I always buy Morrisons bleach which is in a large white container and costs less than 50p. I find it better than the thicker bleach products that I've tried recently anyway.
Is there a difference in quality between the thick bleaches available under shop brands, they all seem the same to me. I've used most of them and not much different. I think the cheapest I've found was home bargains at something like 79p or maybe 89p. Most are at 95p or £1 and I can see Sainsburys are at £1.20 which is hugely uncompetitive compared to other shops that only vary by 5p.
I tend to buy the cheapest just for the toilet. In fact the large basic Tesco one seems okay just to keep the toilet bowl white but we live in a hard water area so have to use a limescale one too. I often post bleach offers on this site and buy half a dozen when on offer. I have noticed they all spoil clothes!
I just buy whichever is the cheapest. Either Morrisons or Tesco own. All bleach does the same job, it just depends on how thick you like your bleach.
The yellow own brand ones from Tesco seem to do the job well in terms of a toilet cleaner and that is about 50p. You can get bleach free toilet cleaners from Wilko for 50p as well.
All bleach is basically made up of the same ingredients – Sodium Hypochlorite, non-ionic surfactants (or detergent to you and me) and perfume.
So why would you pay, say, £1 for Domestos Original Bleach (750ml) when you can get pretty much the same stuff from generic brands like Sainsbury’s (50p for 750ml) or Tesco (45p for 750ml of thick bleach)?
Surely you refuted this with your previous comparison comment re Morrison’s bleach?
The thicker bleaches tend to stick and last longer, in my opinion.
I always buy Domestos in bulk when it is on offer.

I always buy the aldi own version. Is really good and works just as well as the premium brands
I like stores own brand of bleach over branded to me it all does the same job so why not save some pennies
I just buy the cheapest thick bleach but i do like the bleach tablets (only found them in Tesco so far). Their fab for putting down the toilet or adding to boiling water in the mop bucket to clean the floors.
I like a slightly thicker bleach when using for cleaning toilet bowl. The thicker bleach seems to cling to the sides better. I find Sainsburys bleach at 60p a bottle (usually) the best own brand and is by far my go to choice and as good as Domestos. I agree that when it comes to cleaning it does not seem to matter how thick the consistency is, the cheaper options are just as good.
Don't supermarket and branded bleach do the same thing, just cheaper for the supermarket ones?
Like the majority of people I just buy the cheapest thick bleach. I don't think besides their marketing budget there isn't much difference between that and the brand leader.
Always used to buy Asda own brand one but then tried Morrisons (35p ish) one as it was on offer and there was a big difference when leaving it in the loo
