Best Thing I've Seen on TV (Other than TLK)

Other

In another chat someone told me, after I had watched 1883 how good the following two series were. Can't remember the chat or person who commented but I had to post this topic as I have watched all three now and, as with all things we like, we desire others to enjoy too.

So, 1883, 1923 and Yellowstone (the last set in current times) I have watched in record time unable to stop myself binge watching.

1883 finds Sam Elliot as wagon train boss on the Oregon trail with the travellers facing drought, starvation, indian and bandit attacks, illness and much death. The bravery and resilience of those folk defies belief these days.

1923 finds the relatives of the previous series now established on the Yellowstone ranch but their lives as harsh and unrelenting as their predecessors. Despite it being 20thC it is lawless and confrontational.

Yellowstone finds the descendants of the previous series on a modern day ranch in same place same ranch house (modernised) and with just as many problems and lawlessness as before. Kevin Costner is fantastic in the lead role and the Montana scenery is breathtaking.

I would highly recommend to anyone who has not heard of or seen these series and the last one especially highlights the corruption within the state and that we find everywhere these days.

The writer, to my mind, is genius and actually owns a working ranch in Texas called the four sixes which is written as 6666.

MelissaLee1 I do get overly excited when I like something, often forgetting it may not be what others like. However my bestie and I watched 4 episodes of 1923 last night (she has seen 1883 but 1923 is hard to get but I have it on Plex and gladly watched again), and each of my sons and their wives are thoroughly enjoying them.

MelissaLee1 I weaned myself off the soaps many years ago as I realised I was wasting too much of my life watching other peoples fictional lives. Especially as they were mostly unbelievable lol.

Lynibis The only soap I watch is Eastenders at the moment.Mainly because I've grown up with most of the characters and it's always quite topical .Nor does it shun a bit of controversy. I watched the Conclave on Prime last night that was quite good and have just started to watch Them which also seems good.

I have really enjoyed the 1883, 1923 and Yellowstone series and looking forward to 1943( 🤔 ) Taylor Sheridan is very talented. The music to these is also great. As to other recommendations.... The White Lotus Hotel, Mobland, We own this city. Adolescence was great in a way that left you feeling wrung out and sad.

pamtay so glad you enjoyed it too. I only learned from a friend yesterday that more series are in the pipeline including another set after 1883 and the one you mention. I hope they live up to the originals. Although I did look up Taylor Sheridan and found he was owner/part owner of 6666 I did not realise he actually played the part of the cocky owner of the four sixes in the Yellowstone series. Also my friend told me that the guy who played Rip in YS is the son of multi millionaires but loves to act. Not sure how reliable my info is. Also the actress, Jennifer Landon, who played Teeter (the Texan cowgirl) is the daughter of Michael Landon of Bonanza and Little House on the Prairie fame.....who knew!

Lynibis and there's more Tim Mc Graw and Faith Hill (1883 main couple) are top country and western singers. Luke Grimes - the lovely Kayce in Yellowstone is also a C &W singer

pamtay oh my, it gets better and better. They certainly got the casting right and I really loved the character of Kayce. I really like Rip too even though he could kill when necessary!

pamtay you probably already know but Taylor Sheridan also has a series called Landman, I am on ep 8 of 10. It stars Billy Bob Thornton (really good) and is along same lines but is about oilmen on the rigs in America. I think Sheridan has a thing against women as all his female characters are not very nice. I was going to say a word beginning with b and ending in ches but thought better of it😂

Lynibis that was one I could not get into. I think there are shall we say strong female characters through out the series with one extra strong be- ach!

The last season of Yellowstone got progressively worse as Costner's character was killed off and I'm glad they ended the show.

1923... Season 2 honestly felt like a complete waste of time and the final episode was two merged as one because they just wanted to end it already.

1883... I really liked it and wish it had lasted longer although given the track record of Sheridan's shows it's a good thing it ended early.

Also, the actress Helen Mirren who played Harrison Ford's wife in 1923 is in MobLand. I really tried giving that show a chance, but it's a pile of horse's manure. If Jason Statham shows up I'll watch it. 😆

PhilipMarc sorry you didn't like as I actually liked 1923 best of all and thought Harrison and Helen were fantastic. For entertainment value it's way up the top of my list but as I'm happy to acknowledge, everyone is different. I can't stand Statham films, they're all the same and so is he in every film.

I am currently watching 1923 again with my bestie and doubt it will be the last watch.

Not my sort of show as I'm more of a science fiction or fantasy fan. I'm a big kid really but I like shows that explore our imagination rather than are historic. I used to like westerns though in the past especially spaghetti westerns but nowadays just can't get into them.
