What Book Are You Reading??
Ask a Question
I love crime and thriller books.
Just interested to find out what everyone is reading for some inspiration
I prefer reading books in a series so I can go seamlessly from one book to the next . In general I prefer military history , Bernard Cornwell , Alexander Kent , C S Forrester etc . also the Jack Reacher crime novels by Lee Child . Currently reading Allan Mallinson novels , but finding them a hard read , about a nineteenth century Cavalry officer in the post Napoleonic years . Well researched but does go on a bit too much about horsey stuff (Mallinson's wife is an avid equestrian ) No doubt accurate but In my opinion detracts from the story .
intherealworld wow. You read all different genres. I don’t think I could get into nineteenth century novels, but thanks for sharing! The reacher ones would probably be more up my street
Great question and thanks for asking.
I'm reading a book by author Terry Hayes titled "The year of the Locust".
I do have some other books on the go that I revisit every so often, just as favourites really.
I've found that the free books section on Google playstore is useful for being able to read a first book in a series by an author who I have not read before, such as Blake Pierce, Ty Hutchinson and so on.
Other choices are David Baldacchi, Harlen Coben, John Grisham, Jack Kerouac, Lee Child.
ThatsAGreatDeal oh my days! I’ve read I am Pilgram. I know this is a prequel or sequel, so I’ll definitely pick that book up tomorrow! Thanks for reminding me about year of the locust
PayItForward That's so cool
You're very welcome. I am Pilgrim was awesome. Locust is his 2nd book which took years to be released. It's not a prequel or sequel to Pilgrim but a different story.
I hope that you enjoy reading it.
ThatsAGreatDeal I am Pilgram was so good, it’s taken me a long time to read anything after it - I don’t know if anything will ever be better than it lol
As a Sheffield lady I found a book called Soundtrack Of An Ordinary Life, it's about growing up in Sheffield & following Sheffield United..
I found this while looking for a book on Sheffield for my service user's birthday as he likes books like that..
I found out the Author is a local called Alan Allsop, he is my cousin & the book is dedicated to his late Mum Janet who ended up having Dementia, she is my beautiful beloved late Auntie Jan, little sister of my late Mum who named me after this lovely lady...
Auntie Jan was an Auxiliary Nurse, went on to be a Warden running a Nursing Home then built up a shop from a shack with her childhood sweetheart Roy
My lovely Auntie Jan went to Gym FOUR times a week in her 70's,always dressed smart, had her hair done EVERY week & looked after her two GREAT GRANDCHILDREN 3 & 5 in her 70's with her husband Roy then Dementia took her & turned her into a bag of bones who no one recognised..
The book is a hard read for my family, my sister cried after reading it when I sent her the link to buy it..
Auntie Jan died Christmas night 2017...
Me too but I haven’t read books for a long time haha as I prefer to watch tv dramas series instead lol
I watch a lot of police dramas!
Lynibis line of duty was brilliant. I’m going to rewatch it soon actually. I also enjoyed blue lights
nina090976 so true! Haha which tv dramas do you watch? I watch a lot of American dramas lol
kitty88uk I loved the Dahmer series on netflix True Detective is great, I watched Until I kill you(itv) a few days ago, that was quite gripping. There's so much choice x
nina090976 is that so, yeah way too many police tv dramas hard to choose which one to watch
Do you have a favourite series?
kitty88uk There are so many The strike series is great (bbc)... whereas movies like Harry Potter and Lord of the rings/The hobbit/ The matrix.... I watch yearly x
nina090976 yeah those films are always on at this time of the year, hate seeing them lol cause I’ve already seen them, Harry Potter I have not watched them since a few years back when they came out in cinemas and started showing on tv
I have just finished reading Eon and the next book in the series Eona both by Alison Goodman.
I am about to start Lireal by Garth Nix (again!)
I am reading the 8th book of 10 by Peter Gibbons, the blood and blade saga. He also wrote a Saxon saga, most of which I have read. Each series follows a particular hero and you get the story from both sides. The Lost Viking I am now reading has the hero lost overboard, washed ashore, captured and enslaved and forced to fight in the fighting pits while his close friends and crew are searching for him. Not for the faint hearted!
The author has written a couple about King Arthur which I will probably read next.
Lynibis oh my days. This sounds intense. I’ll definitely look those books up. My husband might even like them
PayItForward if he likes lots of blood and guts he will! I love the Viking era but there is another set of books set in the time of Edward III (1300s) about a guy who is his Master of War (the name of the series) and they are written by David Gilman. I had a lovely email from him when I wrote to say how much I enjoyed his books. He was pleased they appealed to women and not just men.
I'm reading, The family upstairs by Lisa Jewell....I've started with the Cormoran series(Robert Galbraith) just taking a little break, as they are quite intense
My daughter also gave me The Housemaud series to read, so my bedside cabinet is taken up by books xx
nina090976 I like watching Cormoran series on Tv but not sure I could read the books. I wonder why J K Rowling chose a man's name to write Cormoran.
Lynibis yes, I love the series too. The books are extremely long, 900 odd pages The running grave is my favourite so far, it hasn't been televised yet. J k Rowling writes under another pseudo name too, Richard Osman, I think it's another detective series, I do have one copy, haven't got round to reading it yet. I am not sure why Jk Rowling writes under different names, maybe it's due to the Harry Potter books, either way I love the Strike series xx
This is Richard Osman, definitely not j.k.rowling. He has a game show on BBC 2 called House of Games and used to be on Pointless. I tried his 1st book but couldn't get on with it but Hollywood liked it as they've made it into a film. The reason I love Strike is because of Tom Burke, I really loved him in The Musketeers, another BBC series.
Lynibis oh I'm sorry, you are right I was under the impression she wrote under Richard Osman I've had The Thursday Murder Club for a few months now and believed it was by J k Rowling, too funny. Yes I love Tom Burke too, such a great actor, ty for the Richard Osman revelation, I would've gone on believing it was Jk Rowling pseudo name xx
nina090976 I enjoyed the family upstairs too, another great read by Lisa Jewell
tumblespots yes, really enjoying it, so much so I have purchased another one of her books x
nina090976 Yes, I have a few of hers too they certainly keep you guessing until the end.
nina090976 I love the Strike books & series. You've reminded me of not read the newest book yet.
Glitterandgold I love them too, I'm not reading them in order though my next one is Ink black, I highly recommend the Running grave, enjoy x
I don’t really read books more of a TV person, love stuff like real crime etc FBI files and that sort of stuff
EKWilkes89 have you watched Cross on Amazon prime yet? If you haven’t, it’s amazing! I recommend it
I don’t read books I can’t relax and get into it, I’d prefer to watch on tv once they’ve turned them into films / documentaries .
LL81 reading isn’t for everyone. I definitely have to be in the mood to read. I watch a fair amount of tv too
