Boots the Chemist
Other
Today I was in Boots looking around and thought I’d ask about flu vaccine. They were chatting to customer in front, fair enough I waited patiently my turn. While I was waiting another worker was having a coughing fit while fiddling with the chemist drawers. Didn’t remove herself to sort herself out, eventually took some water. The first customer left and I knew they had seen me in queue but decided to leave me standing for a good 10 mins while having a chinwag/giggle and opening a tub of chocolate. Eventually I was addressed and I asked my question. I sort of thought it would be no anyway but that didn’t bother me. I find it just so rude not to serve your customers when that’s what they are paid to do. Makes me furious. Another shop Asda cafe twice I’ve tried to eat in the cafe and lights on, open, other customers at tables. But I go to the service area and there is no-one to be seen!! I waited a bit but nothing, no-one, no assistance whatsoever. Is it just me? I’m polite, patient and work as a server myself so know what to expect. Then shops wonder why they stop getting customers.
I think that you would be quite within your rights to raise the Boots matter with the store Manager and express your disappointment at how you were treated. This way hopefully staff will be made more aware of the lack of customer service you experienced and just maybe it will be something that doesn't happen to you again there. It is similar to a situation that I have found to be absolutely infuriating - when I'm in a queue next to be served at the checkout and the person in front of me, who has already paid for their shopping, stays and the store assistant and the person don't stop talking together about the weather or something else that is seemingly bland and unimportant.
ThatsAGreatDeal the same happened to me in boots the other day. The man behind the counter kept looking at me, while he was talking to his colleague, hopping back and forward. I was waiting about 15 minutes. I said excuse me once he looked at me and walked away. A lady from the consultant room served me in the end. I'm not going to go their again. Good way to lose customers.
sarah4701 That's crazy outrageous. Good for you staying calm and collected.
sarah4701 You're welcome. Yes I can definitely see why it would be. A very fine balance between keeping quiet or saying something that could be considered not socially acceptable to say. ..
Shops just don’t seem to care anymore, customer service has gone out the window and staff would prefer to leave customers waiting rather than serve them , pointless saying anything because the management are as bad. Many years ago when I worked in a shop , my manager would insist we prioritise customers and take the money above anything else as that was how we stayed open and remained in a job.
To be fair this has never happened to me.
You’re very patient, I would have beckoned them after a few minutes or tried to find a supervisor.
I'm a live-in carer and my bedbound boss use to get his medication delivered by boots the chemist, they would make so many mistakes every week in his blister pack and he would be on the phone weekly trying to resolve the problems they had made, they got so frustrated with him that they refused to deliver his weekly blister pack medication and he had to sign up to a new chemist (Kamsons) they have been brilliant, however the other day he needed an urgent medication and the prescription was sent to boots the chemist rather than Kamsons
...l went to collect and was asked to take a seat...15 minutes later a staff member came up to me and said... We will not dispense any of hes medication from here, l wanted to politely tell them that they were rude for keeping me waiting fifteen plus minutes but I'm not a argumentative person and wouldn't lower myself to their level. Boots will never be my go to chemist, even though their issue is with my boss and NOT me.
Pinkspirit That sounds awful too. Yes I’m not confrontational either but these things are important when it comes to medication.
Pinkspirit I am not confrontational either but I do sometimes wonder if that is why there is so much rudeness from these people, they know most people will just put up and shut up.
Any shop is only as good as the staff they employ!
It's no wonder they are closing Boots branches www.timeout.com/uk/news/boots-announces-more-store-closures-062823
I get my prescriptions from Superdrug and service is not always fast. I used to go to a smaller pharmacy and they were more efficient at serving customers but that pharmacy is out of the way so changed my pharmacy. I think government funding for pharmacies is reducing. The government is trying to save money and that means less money going through pharmacies. Many are now closed or in the process of closing. I personally don't use Boots as its a US company nowadays but it does seem in reality the US takeover of Boots isn't going to benefit them, it seems like a very poor investment. I went into my Boots a while back to get something for my mother that she wanted and there was more staff than customers. I'm expecting many Boots to close over the next few years.
I truly believe this is a sign of the times. No one cares any more and most parents don't even bother talking to their children or teaching them about respect, morals, manners, responsibility. They are mostly brought up with gadgets, fleeting family togetherness and left to their own devices. Result: disrespectful, rude, promiscuous kids with a couldn't care less attitude. This has been going on for so long that they have grown up into adults with even less values to even try to pass on to their own kids.
Lynibis ...Not all children, yes know some are but I also know of polite, helpful children that aren't always stuck in front of a tv or computer screen & wouldn't think twice about helping anyone..
janphoenix51 oh absolutely, in anything like this it is never all of one group. My neighbours have 5 kids and they are very polite and friendly, always ask me how my day is going etc. They are a credit to their parents.
Lynibis ..Same as my Asian neighbours, the oldest three who are 20,17 & 13 are extremely polite, always ask how we are,the next boy down is 10 & autistic & the little girl who turned 6 on Dec 23rd seems to be autistic too.Little girl can't speak properly yet but managed to say Thank you for my present when I took her birthday present & card around, chocolate for the family & a box of luxury biscuits & Christmas card...
After a couple of minutes I lose patience and call them out lol it's the same as supermarket checkouts, chatting away while customers are piling up, annoying
My local boots is amazing. Staff are brilliant there. I don't use my local town centre where there's probably more of an issue I go out if the main town where it's quieter and where it's more commented on locally
Jerseydrew Mine was out of town at a retail park and I like the store just not the pharmacy staff if you can actually call them that.
JLouM fair enough. Staff at the one i visit is what keeps me going back. I know I'm lucky
I think customer service has gone downhill. Now i’m not one of those people who expects to be doted on, but what you described is rude no matter the situation
Think it’s in all shops never find anyone
When you do they’re always running around like a headless chicken
I use Phlo Pharmacy online.I order well in advance and everything arrives for free and to the door.No problems in over two years.
I wouldn’t actually say anything (actually I probably would lol). But I would film them using my phone. If any staff says anything then I would say I’m watching youtube videos whilst I was waiting to be served.
