Boss Told Worker with Cancer She Was 'Lucky to Have a Free Boob Job on NHS'
In the News
Sometimes I despair about people's lack of compassion and empathy, what was more shocking to me, is that this was said by a woman.
I assume there was a lot more to it, you don't take someone to a tribunal for one instance and in the article it refers to her being told "you are in early stages of cancer not dying so you don't need so much time off" has no understanding of anyone going through chemo or any compassion
beccatavender her boss sounds like a nasty piece of work, she’s well out of there. You would think the boss, a woman, would show some compassion.
beccatavender There probably wasn't much more to this, if any, but just a compo claim now.
But then again, anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer deals with it in a different way. The comments are harsh, but I wouldn't have thought that the woman meant to upset the victim that much if she knew she wasn't coping with the situation well, that would just be horrible.
I'm not quite sure where I stand with this atm because the report is pretty vague.
That was my thoughts exactly, I can imagine a man saying something that crash, it thinking, but a women !@Pjran
I think if the judgement went in her favour the evidence must have been damning. If you dealing with cancer, coming to terms that you may not have kids, you wouldn't want the hassle. She must have really felt bullied to have pursued this case. As it's a time consuming process 3 years TheChimp
I admit I am, but it is based on my experience of men saying stupid stuff and being surprised that women get upset
But you are right to pull me up on it! TheChimp
beccatavender I was in the employ of a big finance company where we had different sections dealing with different finance things.
Us men couldn't believe how nasty the ladies were so bitchy about eachother. We just carried on with work and just listened to all the gossip. The only gossip we really had was in the canteen talking about how nasty the girls were towards themselves.
It certainly kept things interesting all day though, but some of the things said we're just terrible. And this was in a big finance company.
I just drank my coffee and got on with it.
I think it all depends, if it's just banter or if there is some malice behind it by the sounds of it, it doesn't sound a good working environment Pjran
Lets be honest she is lucky to have the boob job tho only because there is millions of cancer people who can't get it on the nhs I do think that is wrong tho either way its not for her boss to say anything to her
Isn't it factually correct as the NHS won't do much in the way of cosmetic surgery normally. I think in the states many who have basic healthcare insurance would get the cancer treatment but not the cosmetic surgery afterwards and this probably applies to many other countries. It's fantastic that she had this cosmetic surgery but still lucky compared to most people in the world. I've been in hospital a few times recently due to covid and certainly feel lucky to have had that treatment especially when you compare it to what is happening in India at the moment.
Unfortunately I can see the NHS scaling back treatment in the future as we continue to build up huge debts so resources in the public sector reduce. We may look back in 10 years at how much better the NHS was today.
