Branded over Non Branded

I buy a mixture of both branded and non branded. Some brands are a higher quality or last longer than others but it depends on what you want. So my son is 13 and loves branded clothing, were going on holidays soon so although hes had a load of new clothes mostly branded we have had quite a few shorts on sale in primark £2 each as its not something he would usually wear at home. I dont mind if they only last one holiday at that price as ive probably had 10 pairs for the price of one branded pair. Same with make up i dont buy the most expensive but i do buy brands like urban decay, rimmel, maybeline, l’oreal, revolution etc. I will only wear eyeshadow a few times a year if im going on a night out so id buy a cheaper eye colour palette from primark etc rather than spend £40+ on an urban decay palette. I suppose it depends what you like and what works for you.

What classes as non-branded make up??? I‘ve got a LOT of make up and ive never heard of “non branded”... do you mean like foreign brands that arent readily available here?

I think it completely depends on what you're buying. I buy a mixture. There's some stuff I'd only trust with known brands, but others where I know they overcharge so would avoid brands.

I generally don't buy lots of clothes so I get branded stuff for things like fleeces and jackets that I find nicer and longer lasting than something cheaper. As for pants, socks and jeans and some work gear I go for M&S as there is a compromise between price and quality, and ability to return. T-shirts I get online from 6dollar shirts in the US. Even after import taxes they are good value and really good quality. Often they have a deal. Work shirts and stuff for the kids from buytshirtsonline. Shoes from sports direct or anywhere cheap as I can wreck them at work.

Personally, I don't care about the brand of clothes I wear but rather if it's a quality product and I like it.

I don't wear clothes as a fashion statement or buy a phone for being fashionable.

Just look at the product in question to see the quality and read the specification if it has one. Many different companies import from the same factories but charge very different prices. I remember a story about Tesco selling the same tinned product under their everyday value brand and their normal Tesco brand. Identical quality product but one had a bland white label.

I was looking at trainers in Sports direct the other day and there was some expensive trainers that didn't look that well made and some very cheap trainers that looked very well made. Maybe the cheap trainers weren't quite as trendy but they looked great to me. Remember pricing is about what people are prepared to pay not what it costs to make. In retail margins vary hugely and sometimes a buying mistake means they have a lot of stock that will only sell by selling at a loss or a tiny profit which is great for consumers.

Some brands definitely are better. I guess it comes down to preference and pocket. If you can afford to buy the luxury brands and like doing so, then why not?! Go ahead. But there are plenty of non-branded products that are cheaper and can be just as good.

It's not just clothes either. I buy a lot of shop-branded food products that are excellent and are much cheaper. Same for make-up too.
