Bristol Considers Monthly Bins Collections

In the News

We pay a premium for council services and we are seeing a big erosion in them as time goes on

Now Bristol council has decided black bin rubbish may only be collected once a month to save money

It is every 3 weeks at the moment

So what will happen to all that waste that is left festering in the summer months especially ?

All i can see is a big increase in rats and bags ripped open by hungry pets

And despite them stating there won't be an increase in illegal dumping i would beg to differ

What will be the next cost saving exercise , take your own rubbish to landfill ?

Maybe a cutback on council pensions so they are in line with private sector pensions? Considering how incompetent they are their pensions should be half that of the private sector not double. It's no surprise though, interest payments on all the debt now is becoming unmanageable and yet still the politicians are not admitting we are in a financial crisis due to decades of stupid decisions and giving away money plus joining a single market we could not compete in. The US is in the same situation, debts they are struggling to pay and facing defaulting on their debt. China is selling US debt at a huge rate, they don't expect it to be paid. I guess they want to sell it before they invade Taiwan where the debt would likely be written off if still held by China.

BonzoBanana I have a cost saving idea for them B, get the lazy pen pushers making these decisions off their derrieres and out on the street collecting the rubbish , that will save a few million

telmel Lets face it councils will be selling off council houses, stripping services to the bone and having a huge number of redundancies and yet still that probably won't solve their financial problems totally. All it will do is delay bankruptcy probably rather than prevent it. Of course this depends on the council, some have staggering debts that will be difficult to get on top of and others have more moderate debts that maybe can be dealt with fully.

BonzoBanana I had another cost saving idea B, start using low risk prisoners that spend all day playing games in their comfy cells to collect the refuse, tagged and monitored of course , if they do a good job they could be awarded time deducted from their sentences

Leannexxx Years ago you might have been able to dump your missed rubbish at the councils office in protest, now you would get a big fine for littering , you cannot win with them

Couldn't imagine that, every 2 weeks for us and that's too long sometimes, after Christmas it was a 4 weeker and that was ridiculous, ok if you live alone but not if you have a big family.

We’re weekly (as it stands) but our local council wanna go two weeks, I wouldn’t be able to do with that let alone 4 weeks

xKJG93 unless they’re gonna provide extra bins or reduce council tax or do something I think they need to prepare for fly tipping because there’s gonna be an awful lot of it if it happens

xKJG93 This story was on the news on tv yesterday X and people were complaining their bins were overflowing after 2 weeks , so at the moment some councils are not providing extra bins

telmel I must admit as a single person without kids I typically have loads of space in my bin and that is every 3 weeks collection. It's service that will have greater or lesser needs depending on how many people live there. It obviously punishes families especially larger families, I guess single people and perhaps retired couples will cope with it pretty well. However summer of course is a big issue too that effects everyone.

I couldn't imagine having to wait that long for them to collect the black bins. It is bad enough now with it every other week. Fly tipping would become extremely bad and my local tip would never cope with the amount of people needing it if this happened.

It's funny there is all these cut backs but then year on year they get wage rises even though a lot of money issues are caused by mismanagement

Nooo no & thrice nay & I don't even live there!

Just seen what no bins emptied in Sheffield for three weeks has done..

Our Brown recycling bin is full to the brim,I have squashed some of the plastics & tin cans down but after putting more on top it's now saying: I've eaten enough, leave me alone woman!!
