Whats everyones opinion and thoughts on bulk buying?
I personally think its a good idea but dont agree with people buying a full shelf of items as there are people who can only afford a week by week shop and maybe need to buy some of the stock people are bulk buying.
I only bulk buy when the items we use are on offer in supermarkets. For example last week I did an online Tesco order and bought a dozen packs of dried apricots. I’ve not been to the supermarket and cleared their shelves of toilet rolls.
I think buying a little extra is ok, but filling up trolleys of stuff is selfish and unnecessary.
It's perfectly acceptable under normal circumstances. Sometimes money can be saved in doing so. The current problem is people clearing the shelves of products that everybody needs and it is selfish towards those who cannot shop as often as they would like to.
I think you should be able to bulk buy but not take everything as there other people who may need it.
I buy a little extra each month,like toiletries,when&if they are on offer.I like to meal prep so I buy accordingly,but all this panic buying is crazy,like you mentioned some people might not be able to purchase what they need if everyone bulk buys x
Long before this Corona crisis I stocked up on toilet rolls. A shop in a nearby town sells high quality toilet rolls in a pack of 18 which they do an offer on of 2 packs for £5 so last time I was there I bought 4 packs i.e. £10. I don't see any point in buying them later as they won't go off so it makes more sense to buy them cheap today and stock up for a few months rather than end up paying £3.50 for a similar single pack in B&M which would be £14 for the same quantity and I don't think the B&M packs are quite as nice. I tend to keep changing where I shop and buy enough of what that shop does which is great quality for the price or just great value. All shops have good and bad items and poor value items that are best avoided so its always worth changing shops but that only makes sense if you bulk buy what you need from that shop while you are there enough qty that will last to the next time you go in that shop which might be 6 weeks later.
I bulk buy items that are on offer, so mainly when the price is discounted. I don’t panic buy, as there’s no need
Johnny No I don't think misinformation is funny. However, that picture is clearly a joke and anybody who does not understand that is how do I put it politely? - not the sharpest pencil in the box. Right, your turn to answer my question!

I am staying in as much as I possibly can. I am frowning upon neighbours who appear to have close contact with people outside their home. I know how serious this is and trust me, I am in a job in which I have to take the whole thing seriously. For those of us in the real world, we know what is important. Stay away from other humans and help the vulnerable where we can.
That's why, when someone comes on here acting all self-righteous (there's a lot of that on these forums) lecturing me on what is right and wrong, I don't take too kindly to it. It's a photo of some toilet rolls, during a time at which people were panic buying toilet rolls. It's not making fun of death or misery. It's making fun of the very people who panic-bought toilet roll and are probably too thick to understand basic humour too. It's probably those people who are still flouting the rules and spreading the virus too.
I'm going to make one assumption that you are a Millennial, based on your behaviour and therefore from a generation of people who have taken it upon themselves to police the web. I wouldn't tar everybody with the same brush (eg. the good lads who built this site) though because I know plenty of people in their 20s with a sense of humour.
I suggest you pipe down and learn to take a joke. I'd hate to see your reaction to some of Jimmy Carr's material. As for satirical humour, don't go near it mate. You'll end up needing a cold bath.
only buy what you need, or have a bit to spare. but never buy silly amounts that are not needed, as it's a waste
I wouldnt say we bulk buy or stock pile like some people do but we do buy bigger packs or get a few things if it works out cheaper. We always buy a 24 pack of toilet roll and it was last a few weeks rather than picking up a 4 pack every week. If something is reduced or on offer 3 for 2 etc and its something we use then we will get a few because it will be back to full price when we are shopppjng the next week.
Bulk buying is generally a good idea when items are on sale. Or in Costco's case, the way you sorta buy from them while making it worthwhile.
Their annual membership is £30ish and apparently usable in other countries too (U.S., Mexico, etc) so you're not locked out of your privileges like Amazon Prime (only for use in one country, unless I'm doing something wrong).
Has anyone now started stocking up on a few items?
It seems impossible to do so because all the stores have already been raided.
We haven’t got a great deal in, maybe a weeks worth of food and toilet roll lol! However I will not be seeing my dogs and cat go without food so we had to go to about 4 different shops to get them a couple of weeks worth of food. I don’t think this is selfish though because my dogs and cat still need feeding, and we normally buy a big bag a kibble anyway and also the Whiskas 40 pouch boxes from Farmfoods as they are always 3 boxes for £22. 
Isn't people "stocking up on a few items" the reason the supermarkets were looking so empty?
I think people went over the top in the first place which causes a knock on effect for others who don’t want to go without who then also have to stock up on things.. As pictured above, I had to get a few weeks worth of cat and dog food because all the stores are even bare of animal food and I’m glad I did as there is still very low stock in the shops. I haven’t stock piled loads of pastas and tinned foods and toilet rolls however!
AliceBell64468 Stockpiling anything is just fuelling it. Sorry. One person does it and others follow like you have. That is human nature. If everybody just bought what they needed until the next time they went shopping just like any other time, we'd have never seen that madness.
Dennab Yes which is exactly what I have just said in my last comment.. people have gone over the top in the first place which has then had a knock on effect so that other have had to do the same. I won’t see my pets go without so have had to travel to 4 different stores to ensure that doesn’t happen.
AliceBell64468 I know it's easier said than done though - if we, the good people of the UK don't do it, the muppets won't and that chain of stupidity will stop.
Depends on the items, the amount and circumstance. If its cheaper then usual and it keeps well see it being ok if actually use the item. This current time no not clearing entire shelf thats bad at anytime, when theres limited amount on the item and many people need it then no don't bulk buy.
As someone disabled, I don’t agree in bulk buying like people are as I can’t get anything and I can’t just go out!
If everyone just went about their weekly shopping as per normal there will be enough to go round for everyone else
I think it isn't a good idea that people do bulk buying as everyone should be limited and only buy 1 per customer
