Do You Buy Ice Rather than Make Them Yourself?

Ask a Question

I only ever buy ice if it‘s needed for a party, usually if going out or picking some up as there may not be enough ice for drinks for someone else. And even then I buy it begrudgingly, as I’m not a big fan of icy drinks - if anything, I often tell food and drink establishments to withhold the ice so I make sure I get more of the drink!

I always buy ice. It's an absolute pain to do it yourself just to save a couple of pence.

I used to work for a fast food place when I was in university back in the day and even if someone asked for no ice, they'd still get the same amount of drink as the machines are programmed to put out a set amount. Maybe it's changed now, I don't know.

Not sure about fast food places, but at juice bars and bubble tea cafes, I’ll get more drink - usually they blend a lot and chuck out the excess (or sometimes I’ve seen the staff sneakily keeps some back for him or herself - perks to the job!)

We have an American style fridge freezer plumbed in with ice and water dispenser. Saves me loads on buying ice for my g&t and kids love it too. Got it off eBay Cheaply 5 years ago for £250 as one of the doors was dented but it’s covered in fridge magnets and the kids pictures anyway so you don’t notice it. Can’t have gin without ice! 🍸

We buy ice because no one ever remembers to refill the ice cube trays after using them 🤦🏻‍♀️ I used to have an american style fridge freezer that had an ice dispenser but it didn’t work very well - the ice always got stuck

I used to buy it but it was taking up so much room in my little freezer (my fridge has to fit in a certain space so limited on space) so I bought a couple of trays to do my own instead and won't go back to buying it now. Cheaper to make your own (only outlay is the trays which are cheap from home bargains etc)

We have an ice dispenser integrated in the fridge. It is used every day, especially in the summer and is great when guests pop in for a drink!

All you need to do is to freeze water. Don't understand why people pay for something you can easily make for free at home. 🤷‍♀️

I don't use that much ice at home, but always make it myself when I do. That said I will be getting some ready today as the temperature in my area is forecast to be 34°C tomorrow 🌞 ❄️

Yes, fingers crossed that the sun stays, at least for the weekend. It was lovely out today ☀️

During the hot weather I buy the bags of it due to how much we go through , it's just convenient. During the colder months we do our own as only use it at weekends in my gin 😁

I have those reusable ice cubes, which are good to use to keep things cool, and doesn't melt or leave a mess

We don't use ice, so I don't do either, but if I needed ice then I would make it as it is easy to fill up the tray and put it in the freezer.

I used to work in a pub and we had an ice machine, it was brilliant, but a nightmare when it was busy and we had ran out of ice and were waiting for more to be made, so always had some bags in the freezer as a back up!

Always make it, it’s so easy and saves some money and I just don’t really see the need for buying it

I've never bought the bags of ice cubes and don't think I ever will. I also have the reusable granite 'whisky rocks' which i like, they cool your drink without diluting it.

Waste of money to buy it, I make my own... I also freeze a bottle of water, during summer, just put half water in it or 3/4.

Add water, you may have to run it alittle under a tap & dry the bottle, then put it in double small bag. (specially if bag it thick)

Perfect...

It doesn't go all over the place if you do that,

I drink more water when I use ice.

If I am home, at times I take the bottle instead of cubes & put it in a cup so I don't make a mess.. It doesn't make a mess because bag is doubled, I can even put it in my handbag & the handbag never gets wet.

Meaning I don't have to always carry it in 1hand, specially if I am shopping.

I've done it with big 1litre bottles only at home put it on a plastic bag, & drink, let the bag dry later or you can dry it.. Sounds like alot to do but it's not...

Always seemed bonkers to me buying frozen water ! A few ice cube trays / bottles of water in the freezer and your drinks in the fridge . Fine for an afternoon for up to 10 people .
