Before coronavirus I would’ve purchased second hand items but now I feel the complete opposite. What about you? Would you buy second hand items now?
I bought a second hand game off eBay this week and just cleaned it with anti bac wipes when it arrived, I would probably be more wary now and would definitely clean/wash anything straight away
I personally wouldn’t buy second hand at the moment because of the current situation
summa68 I have had this problem where people will not pay via PayPal because of charges, I totally understand.
summa68 the buyer does not have to pay a fee to have their payment covered. They are advised to use the pay a vendor option as that way if there is an issue they can be refunded. PayPal then takes the fee off the amount the buyer has paid so the person selling gets less money. It is 25p per transaction plus 2.9%, so not a huge amount the seller loses.
I've never had any issues with people paying through paypal, I've sold items where I've been charged the fees, which is fine.
If the person doesn't have paypal then simple ask them to put the money in an envelope and don't touch it for a few days.
I've sold items just now and bought them too, all socially distanced, as my son has needed new clothes or shoes and it's much cheaper. I wash everything as soon as I get it home and disinfect the rest. I've made some money and saved some money, which right now is really helpful!
Yeah no problem, if you are worried just don't touch it for 3 days after it arrives. Viruses aren't like bacteria, they can't replicate outside a host and don't survive for long outside a body. On a clean smooth surface they can survive their longest but its still only about 3 days and I've not seen any more recent tests to dispute that. The ideal way of transmitting is close proximity to another person.
Also if some people are going to be anti-s/hand purchases now the law of supply and demand means prices could be lower which is even more tempting.
How do you get the new item anyway without any human touching it, its not like such products float down from the clouds away from humans. Someone in a shop may touch it, the courier, the people in the warehouse who packed it, in fact warehouses seem very high risk with many warehouses having outbreaks of the virus. It wouldn't surprise me if new items were higher risk.
Yes I would still buy second hand. You have as much chance catching anything off new things as second hand things. Everything that does not require fridge/freezer gets quarantine for 1/3 days depending on material anything that can't wait gets antibacterial wipe
I personally wouldn’t, I have only been out to exercise since lockdown and I live in the countryside so hardly see anyone. Any post I receive is left alone for a couple of days. I may go over the top but I had a close friend die from the virus and that really hit me hard. Hope everyone stays safe.
Yes. Why not? They are a fraction of the cost and you can pick up some bargain pieces.
Throw it in the washing machine, dry it and enjoy it. No fuss and a warm glow knowing you have made a saving and the environment!
Yes I would and I have I know that all donations are stored for 72 hours before they are put on shop floor it's no different than doing a food shop every thing still needs a clean when you bring in your home
Of course! I sell clothes online and I wash everything before I post it. I also advise the buyer to do the same as soon as they receive the item. Luckily I've still been making some £££. People are definitely buying more online now, and since their missing charity shops are also buying from people like me.
Yes definitely. If I have second hand clothes then they go straight in the wash anyway.
I have sold second hand items, after being put into bags they were left a couple of days untouched and then when they were purchased I left them at the front door to maintain social distancing and offered to spray dettol on bags
I still would, obviously depending on the item, At the end of the day not only are second hand items (usually) cheaper than them brand-new I can just wash them thoroughly.
