Thoughts on Cadbury's Chocolate?

Other

I just recently saw someone mention that they love Cadbury's chocolate which gave me an idea for a topic (no pun intended).

So what is everyone's views on the modern Cadbury's chocolate?

Personally it used to be my favourite, but now I can take it or leave it. My family and I loved our tins of Roses at Christmas, but we don't bother with them anymore. However, I still really like Wispas. But again, I don't think they are as good as they used to be.

I know it was taken over by an American company and they changed the recipe. I find it too oily now and all bars are smaller and thinner which somehow seems to detract from the flavour too. I used to love the large chunky bars. One piece would last ages, melting into a beautiful consistency you no longer get. I personally no longer eat anything with sugar, whole year now, and managed to reverse D2. Don't feel I am missing out anymore, but do miss a nice bit of cake!

Wow well done! That's an amazing achievement. I had gestational diabetes so I'm at risk of getting type 2. I've been trying to cut down my sugar but it's just too addictive. I cut down on starchy foods easily but chocolate and cake are almost impossible to cut out completely. I do still love cadburys but yes definitely preferred it before. I liked the big cadbury cubes 😂

The chunky blocked chocolate was really nice. I'm not into the more curvy shaped blocks.

I expect it is easier for me Tash as I live alone so do not have to worry about getting in treats for family. I make sure I am not hungry when I go supermarket shopping and I avoid the naughty aisles! I

I used to love a cup of tea but now, even after a year, cannot bear it without sugar, although strangely I can drink coffee without. I am now trying hard to cut down on carbs as my body seems to crave them to replace the sugar. Anyway, hope you keep happy and healthy and I would say to anyone with D2 that they have the power to help themselves and the medics, imho, are not really up to date with all the current research. I recommend reading Dr Michael Mosley.

Could you not have cake with sweeteners ? Or even with banana ,apple puree etc to sweeten?

Sarahvwomble A nurse told me that sweetners trick the body into thinking you are eating sugar so reacts in same way and also it would keep my sweet tooth active whereas I am trying hard to lose my yearning for sugar. It is a year since I wrote the above and it is at a stage where I am able to say no, but do have occasional treats. Main thing is that I am not needing to go on medication so that is good, still only borderline.

Lynibis were you initially on medication before cutting out sugar? My partner has D2 and is currently following a keto diet which has really improved his results. Beer is his downfall though 🙄

gerrykelly25 no I have only ever been borderline and asked my doc if I could try controlling it without meds, which I have done for several years. I have not had a diabetes check since last September (should be 6 monthly) so am a bit worried as have been a bit naughty during covid. I need the checks in order to keep myself on the wagon so to speak. Keeping track of my numbers is important but without help I flounder a bit.

Lynibis I agree, the tests really help to keep you on track. My OH needs watching as he loves chocolate and desserts! The keto seems to suit him though.

You are doing well to manage your diet. Medication brings it’s own side effects.

Lynibis I agree with you on this. I have tried Weight Watchers desserts occasionally and I find they are far too sweet. I have a theory that they want you to keep a sweet tooth as that way they keep coming back to WW.

I like all chocolate, so I'm happy to eat it, but I do prefer other brands 🍫 🍫

I'm with you on this, since they changed the recipe and the shape I don't eat much of it at all and would probably leave it rather than take it - which I couldn't say a few years ago. I don't know why they mess with a winning formula - are they mad?!

I love crunchies! Always have done, although it if more for the honeycomb rather than the chocolate! I don't actually eat that much chocolate and not a lot of cadburys anyway. I am more of a galaxy kind of person!

I think their chocolate is getting worst and worst....I loved the bar wit currants and nuts and than they changed the recipe and replaced the red currant with the cheaper raisins...yukk....

Their Quality Sweet box is not full anymore, the weight reduced, the quality bad and now...this year they made the box so thin...honestly???? Like this the box can not be re-used much.

I will look for the metal box....

Cadbury have unveiled this year's limited edition Inventor Bar flavours lineup - Banoffee Nut Crumble, No Frownie Brownie and Fizzing Cherry. I'll buy them all when I see them, but the brownie flavour is the most appealing one for me.

Although, I'm more interested in getting hold of the new (to the UK) Caramilk flavour. It will be available in three different sizes and should start to appear in shops before the end of June.

I used to be a real cadbury chocoholic but maybe this new recipe has made me subconsciously stop buying so much. I still enjoy a Crunchie maybe because it is more honeycomb than chocolate.

The local Asda used to sell a reduced sugar Dairy Milk which I could give to my granddaughter who is Type 1 diabetic. She could have 3 squares as a snack. Unfortunately they don’t stock it now so I wrote to Cadbury’s and they replied that they were not able to tell me where I could buy it now. I thought that was ridiculous.

Grannyclock Is it the 30% reduced sugar one? If so, Amazon sell it.

Still sounds like a lot of sugar, so probably not suitable.

TheChimp thankyou. Yes it's still a lot but 3 squares is OK as a treat.

I don't like either the new shape or the flavour any more. It's not a chocolate bar that I first think of these days, in fact this isn't the only one which has changed many chocolate bars have also been tinkered with and I hope that they regret their decisions to play with the recipes! It sold well when they bought it but now?? I doubt it.

The Cadburys cream eggs used to be my favourite 😍 really thick creamy chocolate, it used to take some biting to get into it too, but now they're awful! cheap tasting thin chocolate and sickly sweet fondant centre 👎

Apparently some Cadbury chocolates which contain gelatine is made from beef gelatine, so for those who dont eat beef (religious or non religious reasons) its best to avoid Cadbury chocolates with gelatine. Good news it that Dairy Milk Oreo doesnt contain gelatine!
