Camera Firm Kodak Moves into Pharmaceuticals

In the News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-53563601

Kodak has secured a $765m (£592m) loan from the US government to make ingredients used in generic drugs to help fight the coronavirus.

I was very surprised to read this, being that they are best known for cameras, although I guess there’s lots of money to be made during this pandemic

Sounds like they know how to keep themselves afloat during these hard times, and good to hear they’re not going bust

I am surprised, but but I guess they have engineers working for them, who are able to apply their skills in the medical field

hspexy the loan is a huge injection, which will no doubt affect their share prices, so it is a smart move

I thought Kodak went bust. Pretty sure my Kodak digital camera is made by a Chinese firm that either owns the Kodak brand or licenses it. Kodak are legendary for refusing to make digital cameras because their film business was so lucrative but only a few years later the film business was pretty much dead and they had an absolutely tiny slice of the digital camera market because they entered it late.

I worked at a factory quite a few years ago that was originally a Kodak facility here in the UK, there was old memorabilia of Kodak in the factory despite being used by different companies after Kodak sold it. I think the factory distributed Kodak products and did development of films. At one point the majority of cameras sold in the UK were Kodak. The only Kodak product I see regularly nowadays is the cheap Kodak batteries in Poundland.

I thought so too, but perhaps it was just part of their company they shut down, and kept some more lucrative but less well known departments, hence the batteries.
