Who Cant Wait for the Coffee Shops to Reopen?

Ask a Question

I prefer tea, which I can make best at home. But judging by a lot of people‘s reactions to hearing that the coffee shops are one of the first and soon to reopen, I guess this not the same for coffee? Is the stuff at home not sufficient for your caffeine fix?

For any Friends fans, it reminds me of the one where Ross and Chandler were forced by the bullies to stop going to Central Perk, and so they tried to make their own coffee at home...

Me ☕... I've only had one takeaway coffee during the lockdown and it tasted very good. Starbucks is actually opening Drive-Thru and some selected stores later today for takeaway only. I'd be happy to go there for a cup - https://stories.starbucks.com/emea/stories/2020/stores-in-the-united-kingdom-to-welcome-customers-again-what-to-expect/

Lol I’m sure it’ll be busy. It’s been years since I bought from them - when they try to charge around £2.15 for some hot water and throw a bag in it, I can’t justify spending there

hspexy I don't mind going to Starbucks, but I don't live near any of the stores that have reopened. Instead I visited a local independent coffee shop in the afternoon for my takeaway caffeine fix.

I’m also only a tea drinker. For me I don’t want them to open because I want people to be safe but I also don’t want people to lose livelihoods. However I’m looking forward to a healthy opening of the coffee shops so I can sit and see friends and family. They used to be good for my mental health

I just don't get it. I'm not a coffee drinker but I do like a nice cup of tea. Paying £3 for a cup of coffee seems odd to me. My OH is a coffee lover though and has just purchased a bean to cup machine as she refuses to pay coffee shop prices. I do however love the warm milk/frother function for hot chocolate!

lol I refuse to pay £2 for hot water with a bag in it 😂 at least the frothing function may be considered worth the higher price tag

Never really understood the fascination with coffee shops. Not a big hot drink person, but when I go, I try the flavoured stuff (like caramel). Never actually has enough of whatever flavour they're saying it is though!

I work in a coffee shop and personally I am not in a rush for them to reopen, not because I don't want to get back to work because I really would like to, but it is not essential. I would not feel safe and be quite unhappy having to work and be put at risk right now just so that people can get a take away coffee. Safety comes first and people will flock to them, it's not sensible. I have found it frustrating to hear people saying they can't wait for coffee shops to reopen when this is not essential and I doubt many that want these open would be willing to go and work there right now.

I agree that they’re not essential. Such beverages can be made at home. But for some, getting that fresh coffee is a ritual, so the sooner they can get back to their ‘normal’ the better they will feel. I know that the coffee vending machines perhaps don’t serve the same quality of drinks, but it’s probably a better way to get coffee for people without direct contact with the barista?

hspexy yeah I understand that people want to return to some sort of normality, as do I. I'd love to be able to see my partner, see my family, and then simpler things like go to the gym and be able to go for a meal. But I'm not itching for and asking those places to open because it's too risky and I'd feel awful for those having to work in those places. Until it is much more safe to do so, I don't think it's reasonable to want them open.

no thanks. I do like my coffee, but I can keep it simple for now, have what I can make at home without the risks

I can take or leave a coffee shop coffee, to me it's the social ritual of going out for a coffee that I miss.

I love coffee, but my head can't cope with it.

I went to the local retail park with the wife and we decided to go to Costa for a Hazelnut Toffee Latte or whatever it was.

I was so spun out after drinking it that the wife had to drive us back home.

I have a Bosch Tassimo coffee machine now which churns out half mugs of Costa cappuccino and I can just about cope with that.

Must be caffeine sensitive, I suppose.

I never really go to coffee shops so I haven't missed them. I'm more of a tea drinker and I begrudge paying £1.50 for a cup of tea. I only go to them when family or friends are visiting and want to go.
