Capt Sir Tom Moore - Funeral

In the News

Just read this .....

BBC News - Captain Sir Tom Moore: Daughters release funeral details

I love the way that the family are saying 'continue to support the NHS by staying at home'.

Is this the same family that took a holiday to Barbados in December? ๐Ÿค”

I'm sorry, but it doesn't sit right with me.

I think the family has dealt with their loss with dignity, I can not image the hurt they must be experiencing when they have been trolled online. To say that they had to keep the fact they were HATED from their father is unbelievable.

What ever you may think of their decision to have a family holiday, they have lost a loved one. You don't know if they were asked to make that announcement to stop crowds.

beccatavender You can see how the statement could be perceived as being a bit hypocritical though, right?

I can which is why, I said they may have been asked to say this by the Government. I don't think the trip has taken away from his achievement of raising funds from the BUS TheChimp

beccatavender Na, I don't think so.

The government would never have asked them to put out that statement in my opinion.

I wouldn't take anything away from what Sir Tom did (and we contributed ourselves).

But you can see why people are annoyed.

It's like someone campaigning for vegetarian/vegan food, then getting an offer to have an all expenses paid fillet steak dinner, them eating the dinner, and then coming out the next day saying don't eat meat or dairy etc.

TheChimp Anyone in their right mind wouldn't see it as hypocritical - when the holiday was taken it wasn't during a lockdown - and complied with all regulations. It was on his bucket list and didn't, as far as can be gathered, contribute in any way to his death - or anyone else's.

TheChimp WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE you say are ANNOYED? I've taken the trouble to read the article you posted a link to and all the comments, before, the one I reply to, and can see no mention of anyone (other than yourself) being annoyed in any way.

To answer your question "is this the family who took a holiday to Barbados in December?"

Yes they are the same family who helped him achieve a lifetime wish by accompanying him. and as far as I'm concerned should be shown some respect rather than be the subject of such comments by someone who doesn't respect Capt. Tom's memory by respecting his family during their mourning.

I suppose you'll now be saying something to get this topic removed - because someone doesn't agree with you. If so don't expect me to respond.

beccatavenderI too can imagine the hurt they are feeling and also admire the dignity they've shown, the support they gave their father, especially regarding the holiday, and the pride they must have felt in his achievements is beyond imagination. The fact this trolling of his family still continues, after Capt. Tom's death is disgusting and surely makes those with any decency realise that the actions of the trolls shows them to be little more than snivelling little cowards hiding behind a keyboard.

There was nothing remotely wrong with them going on holiday, it was on Captain Tom's bucket list, and no regulations were broken by him or his family. "The family flew out to the Caribbean Island on December 11 before strict coronavirus travel rules came into force in the UK"* When people reach the age of 100 they don't postpone gifted holidays for too long.

*Why not read the facts rather than listen to what people, not fit to lick his boots, say: https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1392458/tom-moore-barbados-holiday-trip-captain-tom-moore-dead-latest

You need to check Leanne; no one got any flack for traveling abroad, when it was permitted. Captain Tom's (and family's) trip was perfectly acceptable, and wasn't breaking ANY RULES on the 11th December 2020.

Leannexxx Quite correct many who broke rules did get some flack - many deserved it BECAUSE they broke the regulations. If you did actually care to check (which you say you don't need to) you MIGHT (if not too blind to see) see that when Capt. Tom and family started their holiday to a place out of the UK there was absolutely no rule they broke or any advice they ignored.

I'm not sure if you grasp what this is about. The "I love the way that the family are saying 'continue to support the NHS by staying at home'." was sarcasm, made obvious by what followed.

I do actually "love the way that the family are saying 'continue to support the NHS by staying at home'. (without sarcasm) They are trying to prevent people lining up in the road at the funeral.

So why should they be trolled for asking people not to line the streets?

There are some very sick people about. You might find this very hard to believe but when last year I mentioned I had a chest infection - one of them said he hoped it was Corona Virus. I'm too thickskinned to be bothered by such trolls, and am not a vindictive person, but must admit when a short time after the same person said he had had an accident whilst drunk, I couldn't help but smile.

It's called "KARMA" and pronounced "Ha - Ha - HA"๐Ÿ˜€

Mctash I hope from what I said that nobody thought for even one moment that I thought you had ever been disrespectful to me. I've never been disrespectful to you either. The one who was extremely disrespectful to me (and numerous other members) is pretending nowadays to be a nice person, but lets his guard slip. He did it the other day, on a topic that was removed.

Hopefully many of his cronies (who know my wife died - not recently) saw him for what he is before that topic was removed. He has absolutely no respect for the bereaved as he's demonstrated in many other ways.

I hope his wife (if he actually has one) knows he's willing to gamble away their house on a bet he'd definitely lose.

Mctash Thank you it was over half my life ago, since when I've had another life, most of it quite successful and far from being sad and lonely, with real life friends, unlike many trolls whose only interaction with people is to try to harass any online they perceive to be better off than themselves (CaptainTom's family are just one example).

Realistically he shouldn't have been on holiday during a pandemic regardless of the rules no one should have been on holiday out the the country. I'm impressed on what he done but a 99yr old man shouldn't have been doing laps around the garden to raise money for NHS charities.

That takes some beating - "a ninety nine year old man shouldn't have been doing laps round the garden". Have you not realised that it was probably his determination not to give up that got him to such a great age. He did more for the morale of this country than all the trolls now attacking his family.

You forgot to mention at what age you think people should give up and curl their toes up?

davidstockport No he shouldn't have had to do that, he had done enough for the country.

He probably did it to incentivise himself, to have something to get out of bed for, to stay active, because once you sit doing nothing, death comes sniffing.

It is imperative that old folk keep moving as when you get older 'use it or lose it' has a very different meaning.

He didn't HAVE to do it, he WANTED to do it.

Getsome He didn't HAVE to do that - he did it quite voluntarily. I'd like to know what the trolls do voluntarily, I know of one (almost half Capt. Tom's age) who throws a hissy fit if any charity even asks him to donate anything. Even though he doesn't HAVE to give anything should he choose not to.

Getsome He needed to raise money for the NHS charity, because unlike some total waste of spaces, he wanted to show his appreciation. Many of us feel a NEED to show our appreciation, many of us were helped to do so because of him.

An overwhelming majority of the people in this country supported what he did. Members of the NHS went far beyond what they needed to do - many even lost their lives while doing so.

davidstockport I'm not disputing what he done but he shouldn't have needed to raise money for NHS charity. If the money to the NHS was done properly then we wouldn't have any NHS charities to raise money for.

Getsome Many of us feel a NEED to do what we don't have to do - there are some however quite willing to take what the NHS workers do, beyond what they are paid or expected to do, and yet do "sod all" to show their appreciation.

I bet taxi drivers who are paid adequately don't particularly like those who don't tip even if they have gone beyond what they were paid or expected to do. Do you suggest the government fix that too?

Like

SilverSurfer

davidstockport Well I do think that the NHS should be funded properly and we wouldn't need people to raise money for NHS charities so yeah the government should fix that issue and the appreciation can be done with a proper wage or are you more the type that thinks a clap would suffice? In regards to taxi drivers, what exactly do they do that makes them go above and beyond? They take you from a to b and you pay the rate.

Getsome Most in the NHS get a reasonably good wage - I am OBVIOUSLY NOT the sort who thinks a clap is sufficient reward and of showing appreciation for going beyond the call of duty, otherwise I wouldn't advocate that NHS workers were helped by a charity funded by those willing to show their appreciation by donating.

As for taxi drivers; if ever you have to struggle with heavy luggage, don't blame the driver, he can probably recognise people who don't consider him doing something he isn't paid to do, worthy of a tip.

davidstockport If the NHS was funded properly then NHS charities would not need to exist so he wouldn't be able to raise money for NHS charities.

Getsome Taxi drivers are paid to drive you place to place, if they do any more than that (they are not paid to assist with luggage except in the proximity of the taxi) then most people will show their gratitude with a tip.

Perhaps we need to end this it appears that the opening poster, who doesn't see my posts thinks that conversation or chat is troublemaking.

No I'm not causing trouble - I am just trying to let people know the truth instead of the misinformation that PEOPLE are annoyed. (people is plural - there was only one person annoyed that I could find - no one else could find the others either).

I think it is people who spread such misinformation who are causing trouble.

I bet you do wish you could stop me posting. You don't like anything being said that you don't agree with. You might have to get used to it. Or keep your head buried in the sand.

There were so many people went on holidays while it was allowed. After all he did i think he deserved that holiday especially spending that time with his family before he passed. I wouldnโ€™t of travelled abroad but each to their own and at least they are asking people to stay safe.
