How Was It Car Free Day Today?
Ask a Question
Today it was Car Free Day and I even downloaded the map that they had on TFL which showed where the closures will be.
It said that there won't be cars or busses from 10.30am to 5pm today.
I went to Waterloo, Charing Cross and Tottenham Court Road today which are locations that said on the map will be closed and there were lot busses and car between those hours.
I don't understand what happened!
Did you notice places where there were not supposed to be cars or buses?
I wasn't really following this, but I did stumble across a large area around St. Pauls, Cheapside, Bank, etc that was closed to traffic when I was walking in the area on Sunday morning. They had lots of different activities and events on during the day. They had also built a stage on the normally very busy road intersection by the Royal Exchange with many different performers. Plus, I saw on the news that Tower Bridge was closed for a 'mass yoga session' - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-49786683
I didn‘t notice any difference and was not aware of any areas stopping vehicles going through! It seems strange that it wasn’t put more in public knowledge as none of my colleagues were aware of it either.. I think we will always need cars though, and I love cars!
Couldnt say I noticed a difference - there was just as much traffic about, if not more,, particularly on some roads more than others in town (maybe forced onto the side roads as some along the river was supposed to be closed). I cant say whether the car free day actually achieved anything, as there has not been much info on the papers
