Charitable Donations at Christmas

Ask a Question

Do you give more to charities at this time of year? Any in particular? Any heart-warming stories to share?

The churches round where I live collect for the Christmas toy appeal where families in need have been nominated to receive gifts for their children. There's also been a request for second hand warm coats for child refugees who have recently arrived in the area. I love to hear stories of communities coming together to help their less fortunate neighbours.

We are going to buy half a dozen selection boxes to give to a food bank. I know it’s not an essential item but everyone needs a treat.

I helped out with collecting for a food bank a few years ago and we requested gift set items in the run up to Christmas. Not essential in the conventional sense but like you say, everyone needs a treat. They're appreciated so much as well.

My husband's school normally does a toy appeal for a local charity and I will normally buy an extra toy or 2 to hand in. I will also see if the local food bank or church wants the hats, gloves that my son has grown out of.

We donate to charities throughout the year and I give away some of our son's clothes, toys, books for free throughout the year too, so I wouldn't say I donated more as I do it all year round, when I can anyway.

My husband decided to get the gift donations today. He changed his mind and bought lots of colouring books and crayons rather than chocolate.

I remember doing those Christmas shoe boxes where a group would put things into a shoe box to gift, supprised how much fits in them.

I was thinking about this the other day. The children must have loved them, I know mine love anything that come packaged a bit differently as well as being a surprise. Doesn't even have to be anything expensive or fancy.

I object to boxes and cans rattled in my face and like to choose when and where I do my charity giving. I can't afford much but at Christmas it has become my habit to donate enough for two homeless people to have a Christmas meal with the Salvation Army. I just hope that admin doesn't take up most of it.
