Cheap Skate

Ask a Question

I bought the wife a load of hotel chocolat stuff for valentines day.

But it was all of their Christmas reduced stuff some 80% off but all still good.

I bought about 20 quids worth and it would have normally been about 80 quid.

She was a bit confused at the start but we started a box yesterday and she is happy!

What cheap skate stuff have you done for your partner?

My husband refuses to buy me gifts on valentines because he’s a cheap skate

I am just a cheap skate in general and don't spend money unless I have too! We are on a mission to save as much as possible so every penny is a prisoner!

This year for valentines day, my husband made me a card out of one of the frozen pizza boxes. No expense spared!!

Lol, that is so funny but very endearing. I think it shows just as much love as buying something expensive 👨‍👩‍👦

Its not about being a Cheapskate it's knowing the value of an item and pouncing when it is a bargain -but not until .

I'll happily spend £350 on a Golf Driver (but only if its a £499 driver heavily discounted ) but get really miffed if a £5 item I buy off Amazon drops in price to £4.80 ! Tells me I'm losing my touch with knowing the value of stuff 🤔

Surely it's the thought that counts 🙄

Golfforall Wouldn't have been with me ex. She used to try and find out how much it cost me when I bought her things.

She was a horrible person though.

TheChimp I think that proves the point very well. Valentine’s always used to be just sending an anonymous card to someone you fancied.

Grannyclock I've always cooked my wife a Valentine's Day meal. I'm hoping to get Chateaubriand delivered tomorrow, but I'm not holding out much hope to be honest.

Otherwise, I'll just do a roast chicken dinner.

TheChimp I hope it arrives in time and you have a lovely meal. That’s much nicer than an expensive present.

Neither me or my partner are cheap skates, we don't buy expensive gifts anytime of the year, Valentines is a no gift day but we do make each other a card, very unique and personal. We have each other what more do we need 🙂

His birthday is January so perfect for cheap skate. As for valentine's I spent as much on him as he did on me nothing

It’s too early for valentines gifts, it’s tomorrow. I’m glad your wife is sharing the chocolates but no doubt she’s expecting something more generous tomorrow.
