Chewing Gum Thief Spared Jail Due to Owing Debt
In the News
The 18 year old in question was given a suspended sentence as he didn't plan the robbery and was not going to profit from it, just pay off his debts
I wonder how many other thieves will see this and think i could get away with that one using the same excuse ?
But that wasn't the biggest surprise for me
The fact the woman driver was asleep in her cab while the gang cut open the side of the trailer and removed 9 pallets of chewing gum , and she didn't hear a thing , was unbelievable
All i can say is by ee bah gum , he definitely wriggleyed out of that one

In Turkey apparently popular belief states that chewing gum eating after dark will turn into the flesh of a dead person and the person chewing it will end up having the foulest smelling breath ever.

PhilipMarc Yep, reward the criminals and punish the motorist seems to be a good example of the unfair justice system M

telmel The previous Prime Minister never showed interested in fixing the Justice System, so my only hope is that the next one actually does.

PhilipMarc The problem is they break the law themselves P , maybe thats why they don't fix it , they dont want to appear hypocritical

telmel that's true.
They kept people in home arrest for months while they freely lived their lives and had parties.
A real conservative wouldn't have done this to his own people.

So so wrong. I’m sure lots turn to crime when in debt, i remember reading about a mother stealing food.

telmel Most of the world's population is in poverty in the 21st Century and much of the UK had quite bad poverty for a high percentage of the 20th century and now in the 21st Century we are moving back that way. I personally don't think today's poverty compares to past poverty though.

I am very, very angry with the magistrate or judge who thinks a sob story regarding theft is acceptable. No it is not. Theft is theft especially 9 PALLETS of chewing gum!!

Needs to be more set guidelines for sentencing, sometimes it seems like a lottery what sentence you get. One person will commit a crime and get quite a severe sentence and another will get off almost scot free for pretty much the same crime. That is not how justice should work.
