Chopping Boards, Which is More Hygienic Plastic or Wooden?
Ask a Question
Are plastic chopping boards more hygienic than wooden ones?
I'd like a silicone one but not sure which is best?
Not sure which is most hygienic it all depends on how you clean it. I prefer the plastic silicone ones because they can go in the dishwasher. Wooden and bamboo ones split in the dishwasher.
I mainly use scissors for cutting up the meat and putting it directly in the cooking apparatus. Use electric chopper for most veg. But when needed I use a Plastic chopping board. I do thoroughly wash. And all been fine and dandy. But I suppose if you’re really concerned you could bleach it here and there ?
Hi SAdeals good point I think wooden chopping board is hygienic we can wash them just under the tap but in plastic I used to have it before have to clean with brush especially when I cut chicken breast on it meat used to stick on chopping board which I used to get annoyed at the moment mostly chopping board been used in daily basis are wooden and glass in my home. have a good day dear
Jasmine111 thank you for sharing your experience and advice. I've considered getting a glass one but storage becomes a problem! Take care
My cheffy brother said wooden was best tho I prefer plastic and I scrub/bleach etc ... I think glass are supposed to damage your knives if I remember right?
I have always used a glass one. That way I know it is washed properly and nothing sticks in it as there is no grooves
How about glass, they’re easily cleaned. Don’t split and are quite durable. Aesthetically Nice too
Tk3 yes they certainly are easily cleaned. As heatherduthie mentined there are no grooves and nothing sticks in it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I have recently bought a chopping board set, a different board for fish, meat etc. It's plastic, but my husband wasn't impressed as he prefers wooden. I like the plastic as you just put them in the dish washer rather than having to scrub them.
