Christmas Money

Ask a Question

Do you recieve money for Christmas? Or do your kids? What do you spend it on. My parents send me money a few weeks before and it basically gets used to buy Christmas presents for others or towards bills.

Interested to see what others do. There always seems to be something important to spend it on so I end up with no real gifts from my parents.

We get money off the in laws for xmas, (my other halfs parents & grandparents usually give us money to get what we want) Some years we have used it towards Christmas for others &/or towards items for house, this year we didn't need anything so have treated ourselves to some of the things we wanted, the remainder will likely just go towards living costs in Jan.

When my mother gave me money I would always buy something for my home. Not an essential item but a little luxury that I wouldn’t normally get.

Money tends to just go into my purse and I forget it was for a present so it usually just gets spent on every day essentials 😂 .

I didn’t receive any money but my 13 year old son did and he’s saving it to buy old things from World War 2

But the other way of looking at it is that your parents have saved you from finding the dosh to buy the things you used their money on.

I am also a fan of re-gifting as I don't see the point of putting something away in a draw that you will never use. I got 3 lovely diaries this year, lovely gifts but obviously only one is needed but the givers of the other two saved me spending on gifts for a couple of other people. It is a good idea to remember who gave what though and don't pass on something to a person the original giver knows!

I still receive money from my grandparents.. This year I got slightly more than usual (I think it’s just to share out their money as they get older before being hit with inheritance tax...) but I usually save some and spend some on things I didn’t get for Christmas that I wanted..

I got £40 off Grandma. That's all the money I get is from Grandma as no one else ever gifts money. I've got a few things in mind to get with the money. In previous years it has gone toward a bill, so this is my 1st time I will actually buy something for myself with it.

I used to get money for Christmas and always spent it in the sales. My daughters now get vouchers and enjoy picking out what they want to buy.

I usually end up spending it on groceries or my kids but the past 2 years I've spent it on myself on clothes in the sales as I rarely buy new clothes for myself.

My mother won’t give me money for this exact reason! She knows I’ll spend it on bills! but she does always get me lovely gifts which is better. I do however get a little from in laws which does go on bills 🤣

I get some money from my dad (as well as a gift) so I usually have a bit of a wish list of things I know it will go towards. This year I used it towards a carpet cleaner. My mum tends to buy people gift cards instead

I no longer receive money, but when I did (and if I did now) it wouldn't go towards anything specific. It'd either go in the bank or my wallet and be spent as any money would.
