Cinemas 'Temporarily' Closing, Are You Bothered?
Other
I had a limitless card given last Xmas but only used it once before lockdown. Ok, they did extend it to June next year but since restrictions were lifted I have not been because all the films showing are old or I have seen.
Final straw was delaying the newest Bond movie. Really fed up now as limitless is about £17.99 per month (though paid a year up front might have been cheaper) so they have had their money's worth from me as I doubt I will use it now unless they get some good films on. It seems like a catch 22, cinemas not getting people in the door because no decent films but no decent films because distributors not distributing!
I hardly ever go to the cinema anyway. Far too expensive and I detest the sound of others loudly crunching on popcorn.
You can't beat the comfort of your own home.
But of course that was the idea of a limitless card, I could go every day if I wanted to for free. But now it is not value for money as nothing worth watching.
I used to take my kids to kids club but we got a projector during lockdown and kids like sharing out a pack of pringles which you can't really do in cinema
Don't think I'd bother going back
We have always been a film family, but kids aside it was my type of night out with a friend...film and meal.....but along came covid lol.
We love watching films whole family on a Sunday afternoon
just adults when kids in bed. If we watch at home don't need babysitter@Lynibis
Imnotcheap very true, glad I don't have that problem any more and my time as the sitter seems to be over now grandkids grown!
Haven't been to the cinema since January, we stopped using Cineworld a couple of years back when Vue opened nearby. Half the price of Cineworld. That aside it's very disappointing that yet another business is having such problems, and the implications it has for the staff and local economy thou.
Yes and theatres too. Just been watching Jennifer Saunders on the news and her colleagues doing a two minute silence outside a London theatre.
Lynibis Another category severely affected, how many will manage to survive this period remains to be seen . We don't go to the Theatre that often maybe twice a year mainly due to tickets being so expensive, but we really enjoy it when we do, something really good about watching a live performance, be really sad if such facilities weren't there anymore.
I'm a huge film fan so I go to the cinema a lot,I'm pretty gutted about this.I'm just going to have to get used to watching everything at home I guess.
Yes, I'm a member of Picturehouse Cinemas, which is owned by Cineworld, and they will also be closing their doors again for an unspecified period of time from Friday. I have been going to cinemas since lockdown was eased and was looking forward to watching the new Bond film. Now it's currently set to be released a full year after the originally scheduled date. I'm sympathetic to the plight of cinemas and concerned that many may not reopen. They won't be able to attract enough customers through the door if studios and distributors are holding back big budget films or releasing them directly to digital.
It does bother me that cinemas have been closing down. One of my favourite movies Hocus Pocus is on cinemas at the moment and I intend to go soon before I lose the opportunity
Dont really bother me can always watch a movie in the comfort of your own home. Its the actual going out we will miss, dont have any choice now, loved to go when it was a ritual every weekend.
Not really, used to go all the time as a child and teen but cant remember last time i acutalually went its been a good few years
Doesn't bother me either way but i havent been for a while as its not easy in a wheelchair but to be honest i was surprised they reopened anyway
I’m sure you’re disappointed that the cinemas are closing as you have a limitless subscription but believe me I’m sure the staff and the company are in dire straights. It’s a pandemic for goodness sake just be grateful you’re still here to moan about your loss.
Blimey, who rattled your cage? Did I deserve that, compared to so many other chats and comments on here. If you read all my comments you will see I mentioned it was catch 22 for the cinemas and also sympathised with the theatres etc.
Actually I feel very bad mainly because my granddaughter spent such a lot of money on the card for me and I feel as if I have wasted her money.
Lynibis You didn't deserve that. I haven't been to the cinema in a long time as I have found it expensive and too many films are poor and I felt as I have wasted money.
Getsome I think that was why she bought me the card as I did feel cinema was very expensive. I don't believe that lots of businesses only scrape by (pre covid) but it seems for various reasons they never have money put by for the hard times. My boss is same, lives the life of riley with the best of everything whilst paying his employees a pittance.
Lynibis I don’t think they were struggling but the cinema industry in my opinion has been declining before covid hence the unlimited deal. The rising costs and improvements in home cinema has help the decline. Going to the cinema can cost around the thirty quid mark with some food and drink for 2 which is too expensive in my opinion especially running the risk of the movie being *****.
It's such a real shame they are having to close for the next few months,I do like going to the cinema,The joker was the last film I saw in cineworld, its nice on the big screen, such a treat,I do enjoy going x
I think that the last film I saw in a cinema was Pulp Fiction
I don't think I'd be able to cope these days and would lose my rag if someone's mobile went off.
I must admit that has never happened on my visits and a huge ad tells you to turn off mobiles before the film starts. But I get you as I get cross at people in front constantly looking at their phones. They glow in the dark and you can't help being drawn to them.
Must admit I haven't been a cinema goer for many years , nor am I a Netflix subscriber -so no I'm not bothered personally .
I find enough entertainment with the Freeview channels and my Sky basic subscription and have hundreds of hours of dramas and films stored on my box.
Having said that there must be thousands of folk who enjoy regular nights out to the cinema and I feel for them , as I do for all the people in the industry at the "coal face " (cinema employees ) and in the production of films (actors , directors etc ) as very few are on mega bucks .
Perhaps we will see a "cottage industry " spring up in the production of low budget quality films ? There are lots of talented folk out there whom I sure are trying to make that happen.
