How Do You Clean Your Hairbrush?

Ask a Question

I pull out any hair then put it in the dishwasher on the top shelf. I use hairspray and other products on my hair so my hairbrush does go cloudy. I’ve been putting my brush in the dishwasher for years but my daughter thinks it’s disgusting.

I soak the brushes and combs in dettol and hot water and then give them a scrub with a nail brush once a month.

I don’t think many people clean their hairbrushes these days. My friend just buys a new one.

Pjran what a waste of money! I agree though, it is something I’ve always done because my Mum did it!

I use a comb to remove hair and use soap and water when it ends up on floor

Gosh I’m obviously going back decades, I remember in Domestic Science lesson we were taught to wash our brushes and combs. Also to starch tray doilies.

I agree with your daughter, if you really need to put a hairbrush in the dishwasher, maybe put it in the bottom shelf.

Looking like an unkempt version of Grisly Adams I have to keep pulling the hair off my hair brush at regular intervals, but dont really clean the brush that often. I do take it into the shower occasionally which kind of cleans it! never thought about the dishwasher - might give it ago but not while the wife is around as she will go mad!

Personally I use a pin or something similar to pull all hair off, I sometimes soak in warm water but most of the time I just bin the brush because my hair is so naturally greedy and malts loads so more effort than worth for a £1 brush.

Pjran I only own one costly brush and that's to detangle 'the mane', my other brush is a standard chesp brush for daily use.

Pjran Wilkinsons sell hairbrushes for a pound as well as the £1 shops. I clean my hairbrush with scissors then wash.

I get their hair out of it with a knitting needle and then soak it with water and disinfectant periodically.

I don’t own knitting needles, I tried to learn to knit when I was pregnant but mum and my sister did all the hard work and I only did a couple of lines.

I use a comb to get the hair out of my brush. It depends on how bad the brush and combs are after use. I soak them in hot soapy water or clean them while i'm in the shower. Image

Take the hair off - if you have long hair you might want to cut it with scissors rather than just using your fingers to pull it off - then YES in the dishwasher. I also put with my nail file in the dishwasher from time to time!

Ooh I’ve not thought of that. I know its been suggested to put washing up sponges in the dishwasher but I’ve not tried that yet.

Pjran I don't have a problem with sponges as they get put into the 'hot wash' pile on (at least) a daily basis.

I just get the hairs out by running a comb through and soak in boiling water.
